Married NYPD wives?

Married NYPD wives?

DH is looked into adding me to his health insurance through work... has anyone else done this?

They are asking for a copy of the Marriage license and it has to be filed within 30 days of our wedding date. We're you able to send A COPY of your marriage license(the one you gave the officiant and she gave to the town hall) or did you have to wait for the official one with the raised seal? The official one is suppose to take 30 days so how to you file to add someone to your health insurance if you dont have the raised seal certificate yet?

Being a teacher I had to do this too. The license was back to us in about 2 weeks so I quickly ran and got my license and SS card changed and then brought it into work for them. They wouldn't accept a copy...but yet they made a copy when I brought it in.

Now my marriage license is somewhere in the USA with my passport information!

Most places won't accept it without the officially raised seal!

crashing

my fh is NYPD also but we were going to see about adding me in now since my ins costs a lot and my company actually pays us not to have it, go figure! Do any of you know if that can be done? I know the enrollment and time to change stuff normally is in Oct so we'll have to look into it soon. Someone told me that another city worker was able to do it with her live in boyfriend.

Sorry, this doesn't answer your question much :( but I don't see why a photocopy isn't good enough. Send them the bill for the wedding, that should be proof enough!

Ugh! I have been trying to get added! We just had to send in a copy of the certificate. We got it in less then a week after the wedding.

ETA - I believe you only have 20 days so you might want to call ASAP, their open enrollment isnt until july I believe.

not COMPLETELY sure but i think you have to file for the domestic partnership if you are not married .. and then they will cover you??

i'm already on my fiance's policy; we're domestic partners.

i wonder how i go about changing that when we're married.

not hard at all.

Requirements
You and your partner may register to become a Domestic Partnership if you meet the following requirements:

* Both you and your partner are New York City residents or at least one of you is employed by the City of New York on the date of registration.
* Both persons are 18 years of age or older.
* Neither you nor your partner is married or related by blood in a manner that would bar his or her marriage in New York State.
* Both of you have a close and committed personal relationship, live together, and have been living together on a continuous basis.
* You and your partner must be able to truthfully state an identical residential address on the application form for the Domestic Partnership.
* Neither you nor your partner is currently in another Domestic Partnership or has been registered as a member of another Domestic Partnership within the last six months.

This is what we did in July for insurance purposes. We aren't nypd or fdny, but I am a department of ed employee for nyc.
