Just curious which way you are going to have your last name after the wedding?
1. Fi's last name 2. Keeping your maiden name or 3. Hyphen names

Re: Married vs. Maiden Names
I decided to take my husbands last name. But I didnt want to just drop my maiden name so I had it put into my middle name. Sort of like what Marcela1654 did. Its- first name Allison middle name Mary Dodd last name King Its not as complicated as it sounds though I just sign Allison King onto everything

Re: Married vs. Maiden Names
I will be taking FI's last name in my private life, but will be using my maiden name in my professional life. I am a journalist and want my bylines to remain consistent with the same name I've been using and I just don't want to let go of my maiden name, it has a nice ring to it. FI's last name is another story. Let's just say it is going to take some getting used to.

I just feel like... I am who I am and why should I conform, just because that's the way it's always been done. Besides, with a last name like Valentine, how could you let that go. I love my maiden name... so, as I mentioned, I will hyphenate. My justification is for professional reasons, and it is, but I also, just really love my name!

Re: Married vs. Maiden Names
I will be hyphenating for a while. I may decide later in life that I won't to drop my maiden name, but for now I want them both. I only have one sibling and though he is married, their relationship changes like the wind and who knows if they will last and have children. I want to continue to carry my family name with respect and dignity.

I will be taking his name. I'm old fashioned. Although by taking his name that will be the end of my last name - which is sort of sad

Re: Married vs. Maiden Names
I don't like my last name...never really have because its an ethnic name except that I don't share that ethnicity, which has lead to a lifetime of stupid people saying stupid things to me. So I don't mind dropping it. Except FH's name is also ethnic.
And of course, I don't share that ethnicity either. So bring on the stupid people and the stupid things they say.

Re: Married vs. Maiden Names
I am taking his last name. I am contemplating keeping my maiden name for my professional life, since I just got my degree and certification in my maiden name. I still have to find out more about this. But I agree with the person who said that it's better for children if everybody in the family has the same last name

Will take FH's last name. Since I don't have a middle name maybe I'll keep my maiden name as middle, but I've gone so long without an initial that might be stranger to me!

Re: Married vs. Maiden Names
Same as Marcella...I will drop my middle name...and move my last name to middle and then take FH's name. What really sucks...is that FH's ex-wife got to keep his last name in the divorce...because they have a child. So, now I will have the same name as her....ewwwww! LOL

Re: Married vs. Maiden Names
if you have a middle name you can kep it and use both last names. I work for an academic publishing comapny, and a lot of the professors who publish with us do that. Its a little annoying for filing though. . .
I want to take his name, but it kinda rhymes with my 1st name--even his mom laughed!
The thing is, people usualy pronounce it wrong, and then it doesn't rhyme. Not sure what to do, it sounds better if I used my first middle last, but no one will do that.
