Marrige License?

probably a stupid question but im wondering..

ok FH and I have never been married before were having a traditional indian ceremony... to symbolize our wedding etc... i know part of that we do sign some papers...

but than we have to go together to get a Marriage License? do we do that after the 'wedding' or before??

hmm.. and than it means we are officially registered with the State as being Married??

im kinda confused...anyone care to explain

you MUST get a marriage license. otherwise, you are not legally married by the state. you must go BEFORE your wedding.... you can go as early as 60 days before, and no later than 2 days before.

you can go to your town hall or city hall and you need a birth certificate and/or a passport to prove identity and citizenship.

you give the icense to the person that is marrying you and they sign it and mail it back to the town hall. you will receive your certificate of marriage in about a month afterwards. you MUST have that to legalyl change your name, etc.

you MUST get the license within 60 days BEFORE the wedding. You must go to the Town Hall, the town you live in, in order to get the license. Its 40 dollars and you must have you birth certificates and ID.
