matching rings?

matching rings?

Edited with this update:

Hey all,

Thanks all for your quick and awesome replies. Thanks to you, I made a call to get FW white gold and ordered the rings! They're simple rings (we both wanted simple, unadorned wedding bands b/c religious reasons), very pretty, and most important to us, they're socially responsible! Excellent.

thanks again... you ladies sure make it easy on a guy who wants to help and has no idea about some of this stuff.

hey all,

totally random question: I'm about to order our rings (another checkmark, whoohoo!).

FW likes silver and white gold. I like yellow gold. We have a choice of yellow gold or white gold. I'd prefer yellow; she says she'd kinda like white gold, but it doesn't really matter. She really means she doesn't care that much.

i should also just point out that her engagement ring (my grandmother's ring) is white gold.

Do the rings have to match? Is there a reason she shouldn't get white gold?

help me out! I really have no clue how to proceed.

tia,

I would go with white gold, especially if she plans to wear her e-ring and wedding band on the same hand.

Re: matching rings?

My MOH has a white gold band and her husband has the EXACT ring in yellow gold. I thought that was the perfect way to make both of them happy.

Also, my FH bought a completely different wedding band than my ring so it didn't make a difference if it were yellow or white.

FW should get white & you should get yellow...you both want to love your ring...you'll be wearing it for forever !

I've seen this, too, and I definitely think that's completely acceptable!

Mine is all white gold. FH gets two rings - everyday one is white and yellow gold, dressy one is white gold with diamonds.
He's a bus driver, and constantly gripping the steering wheel is hard on the rings. After all, I get two rings........

Re: matching rings?

Back when FH bought my promise ring, he bought it in yellow gold because he said one day he wanted us to have matching wedding bands & he preferred yellow. I like both equally so I didn't care. He, of course, got me a yellow e-ring. When the time came to get wedding bands, he suddenly decided he prefers white gold So we ended up getting the same band, but mine is yellow & his is white.

I say let her get white, and you get yellow. She should definately have white if her e-ring is white & she plans to wear them together.

Hmmmmm, tough one. Our rings are both white gold bc we preferred it that way, but I wouldn't say that they match. However, my w-ring does match my e-ring.

In your situation, honestly the importance of the 2 rings matching is not that high. What's more important is that the 2 of you are happy with something that you'll both be wearing for the rest of your lives. I personally like white gold and would want my w-ring to match my e-ring, but it's not absolutely necessary.

Re: matching rings?

I agree with white gold to match the ering, however, there is something you may not know about white gold...... so I'll tell you, just in case.

White gold is not white through and through. Its yellow gold, which is then dipped in rhodium to make it white. The rhodium wears off over time, so every several years or so, FW will have to get her ring 'dipped' in rhodium. This is also true for the e-ring, if it is white gold, and not platinum.

you should probably notify FW about that if she doesn't already know, so a more informed decision can be made....

thanks for the info, portjeffbride... i already let her know that, and she'd rather the white gold.

My FH and I aren't getting matching rings. We're just each picking out what we like.

Re: matching rings?

There's nothing saying the rings ABSOLUTELY need to match. You just go for what you like.

We have the same thing. We went to look at rings just to price them out.(way too early i kno) FH wants yellow gold and I want mine white gold to match my e-ring.

Oh and I have an antique white gold ring (not my e-ring tho) its probably more than 50 years old and the color has NOT changed. I wore it every day until I got my e-ring. It sounds wierd to me that the color would fade.

Re: matching rings?

Your rings don't have to match---- but her wedding band should match her engagement ring-- especially if she plans to wear them together --even soemtimes.

If her wedding band is yellow gold it will look awkward

Juat another suggestion (to complicate things even more) ...... Why don't you get a mostly white gold band with a touch of yello gold in it--- both of you get what you want & her rings will most likely still match the e-ring?
Just a thought

Good luck!

Re: matching rings?

definitely she should have white..

2 reasons..

1 because she prefers it and 2 because it will match her e-ring!

Re: matching rings?

I would just make sure her ering and wedding ring match...my wedding ring does not match FH's- mine has diamonds and FH's is very simple. I don't think they need to necessarily match.

My mom had her ering diamond put in a new setting that is gold a while back, but my dad kept his plain white gold band- so I dont think they have to match.

Re: matching rings?

you dont have to have the same color gold ring - unless you really wanted to match. i believe you both have to be happy as long as it is something you both love then do what makes you happy - if she wants white gold and you want yellow - go for it!

Re: matching rings?

I think that either she should get a white gold ring, and you get a yellow gold ring, or you both go with yellow gold. I don't think it would look right if she had a white gold e-ring and a yellow gold band unless she is planning on wearing her e-ring on her right hand or not at all.

That's just My Opinion though
