Matre D' tipping

my RH hall say between 3-6$ a person?? tip for the Maitre' D...is that what your hall says too??

im having 350 ppl so times that even by 3 ...$1050 just for a TIP what the hell is the gratuity included for the 18% or 20% depending on ur hall

WHOA! Yep it says 3-5 pp...but that is an awful LARGE tip!!! I dont know really how to handle that

My hall also says $3-$5 pp, but I'm not having anywhere near 350 people...Yikes! I don't know what to tell you. It's amazing how they suck every last penny out of us!

I think that is just a guideline. I can't fathom that they would EXPECT over 1000 for a tip! After all it is a gratuity - it is a courtesy and not mandatory. I gave mine close to 1000 and I tipped the wait staff seperately so that she would not have to tip them from her money. I had about 90 people. I only tipped what I did because she was OUTRAGEOUSLY good. I mean - she was FANTASTIC. I wish I could have given her more - but I had just spent 30K on a wedding... a bigger tip was not happening!

How did you go about tipping the waitstaff separately? I want to do this b/c I have heard from many waiters/waitresses at catering halls that the maitre D doesn't divide his tip up-keeps it all!

i beleive mine says tipping the matre d is at your own discretion. I plan on tipping $2.50-$3.00 a person. Thats all i can afford.

The 18% 'service charge' is the tip for the waiters, line cooks, dishwashers, landscapers - mostly the people you don't see. The maitre'd tip, according to my hall, is $2 - $3 per head - basically, 3% - 5% if you're paying $60 per head.

My dad totally freaked when he did the math.

Our hall recommends $2 - $4 pp for the maitre d, charges an 18% service charge for the waitstaff (only) and then an additional flat rate 'house charge' to cover the managers, cooks, wine stewards, etc, etc. We've recently decided to buy a house & we're starting to approach the limits of our wedding budget now, so we're going to stick to $2 pp for the maitre d. I figure they wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't ok

Yep, we're prob having over 150 so automatically the maitrede is getting atleast $450 and thats if we only tip $3pp!

I would wait until the end of the evening and see how well your matre'd does and then decide. That is one envelope you do not seal b/c if he stinks then you just gave him a ton of money!

I had over 300 person and I could not afford to give my matre'd $5 per head. Sorry I had already given my hall over 60K.

2 to 3 is sufficient, unless the Maitre'D goes above and beyond what he is supposed to do.

Thank you.. It doesnt seem like much to make such a big tip.. I mean to me things should run smoothly and problems should be take care of by the hall without tipping so much.. JMO or maybe Im just cheap..
