I think pillow top means that it has an extra piece on it - it's attached to the regular mattress. Plush is one mattress just extra fluffy... does that make sense?
I have a pillow top and it's fantastic! The most comfortable thing I've ever slept on. You will need the extra deep pocket sheets though. I find them easily....

i don't know what the difference is, but dh and I slept on a pillowtop at a bed and breakfast for our 1st anniversary. It was the best sleep we ever got. We are now saving to get one for ourselves. I was amazed at how well we slept.

I have heard that pillowtop mattresses are really comfortable, but I'm just worried about having to get the extra deep pocket sheets.

We LOVE our pillow top, but finding sheets is a huge pain, and the only ones we can really find are expensive.
Most deep pocket sheets are 15', and we need 18'.

Thanks Sunny. I think we might stick to getting a plush mattress instead of pillowtop. I really don't want to have problems finding sheets, especially since I am already so picky with finding bedding.

I have a pillow top and I have never had any problems with sheets. I think mine is a Sealy.

Pillow-tops are great!!! We just bought a new mattress a few weeks ago & have been sleeping so well I highly recommend the Simmons Beautyrest Drusilla (spelling?). Simmons is known for not being able to feel you partner tossing & turning, it's so nice. You DO have to buy oversized sheets, but I had no problem finding them, found them in Fortunoff AND Wal-Mart! It's worth it, and what's nice about pillowtop is that you never have to flip you mattress!

Check the measurements on any mattress you're interested in purchasing .. the deeper the mattress .. the harder it may be to find sheets to fit.
Our Stearns & Foster 'C Series' Pillowtop measures 14 inches deep .. however .. we saw mattresses that were at much as 18 inches!!
So far ... no problems finding sheets for our bed .. and it is very comfy!
As for never having to flip the mattress .. can't say that's true for every pillowtop .. some are no-flip mattress .. but not the one we purchased .. and from what we were told in mattress shopping recently .. the bedding industry is switching gears to producing strictly the no-flip kind .. however .. a friend of mine cautioned that this is probably the bedding industry's way in cheapening the product .. so they don't last as long .. so you need to buy a new mattress more frequently .. and when I thought about that .. I'd tend to believe it.
