'Mature Bride'

'Mature Bride'

Second marriage, first wedding. Thirty nine years old, but acting like an excited school girl!! I am looking for advice on the reception traditions - I am not sure if I should do the father-daughter dance or the tossing of the bouquet. What can we have instead?

congratulations on getting married
when my mother got remarried she was 41, she also acted like a little school girl. She had everything from the father daughter dance to the boquet toss.
It's your wedding you can do whatever you feel comfortable doing.

Congrats again and good luck!!!!

Welcome & Congrats! If it is your first wedding, I see no reason why you shouldn't do all the traditional stuff. Anniversary dance is always good, but if you want to dance with your dad-Go for it!

Congrats! WE totally threw out the garter toss, the last 2 weddings besides my own I have been too, didn't do it.
Instead of the bouquet toss, we asked both sets onto the dance floor for their dance then presented our moms with bouquets of flowers. That went over real well too. FM me if you want more details, I am happy to help!

Hi there and welcome--I am 36, will be 37 on my wedding day. I was never married before. I'm enjoying the wedding planning. I was never interested in the boquet toss, so I would not be having it regardless of my age. I'm doing everything else that a 23 year old would do. I would not skip dancing with my dad for anything. The only thing I may not do is wear a tiara. I am not sure why but I feel silly in one, like I am trying to be 7 again. If I had been married before, I might have gone for my dress in ivory or champagne.

I'm the exact same as you - 36 now and 37 when I get married I'm dying to wear a headpiece! I tried on a beautiful one with my dress and it really finished off the look. I do think I'll take off all of the veil though for the reception.

My dress is a dark ivory, but I was never married before - it just looked better on me. I am also skipping the garter and bo-k toss as all my friends are married already. We will do the anniversary dance instead and honor my parents who will be 44 years married the day before my wedding in some way. I will also have both my parents walk me down the aisle.

Great ideas - Majority rules - I will definitely have the anniversary dance.
I'm not sure yet whether I will walk down the aisle with my FH or with my son (he's 19).

Hi there........Well, I definitely want a headpeice, but I just don't think I want something that looks like a pointy crown.......I saw a veil that attaches to a pearly headband and I think i want it. Another reason I don't want a crown type of tiara is that I think that it is just a trend and will look dated in photos. Think about the 80s headpeices and how odd they look now!!!

Welcome and Congrats! I don't think it matters what age you are, wedding planning makes us all giddy!

As far as the garter and bo-k toss, I read somewhere here about doing it a little differently. Instead of just the single men/women going on the dance floor, you have all the men/women, and whomever catches the garter gets to dance with the bride, and whomever catched the bo-k gets to dance with the groom. I loved this idea b/c I only have 2 single friends and wouldn't want them to stand out. This way everyone gets to have fun!

I was 41 when I got married for the first time. My DH was 43. The only 'traditional' things that we didn't do were the garter & bo-k toss. Remember it is your wedding & you can do anything you want!!!!

Just wanted to add that my 21 year old daughter was one of my BM.

We had the anniversary dance and people loved it. I was the last of my friends and family members (oldest child, last to marry) so the garter toss seemed silly.

I didn't want a tiara, but I found some very pretty little pearl and rhinestone pins that I wore instead, throughout my hair. I loved how they looked- they stood out just enough.

Have fun planning!
