May seem like a strange question, but - dieting while PG.

We are currently TTC and I am definitely overweight. I just saw pics of myself from Christmas and I just about . If I get PG in the next few months, is it safe to diet - or basically just eat healthy? I know you can do weight watchers and you add extra points to your daily allowance. Will I be overcome by cravings for junk food? LOL. I just don't want to be a complete whale and I don't want to regret the way I look during pregnancy. I want to be proud of my belly etc. I am only 5'2' so I am worried about the extra weight. I am planning starting NOW to eat better and cut out the junk food. Take Casey on longer walks. WHen I do get PG I am hoping to take a prenatal yoga class. Did anyone go through this?

Honestly, I don't what the risks are of dieting, but I know that my doctor has said to follow the Atkins Diet loosely while pregnant. I think that as long as you're getting lots of protein and the daily vitamins that you're body needs, then that's a healthy diet where you will shed those extra holiday pounds.

Good luck!

My doctor advised NO weight loss from here on in. He said at this point you should look at your weight as a maintenance plan. You should not lose weight but try to stay consistent and gain only a minimal amount. Just monitor what you eat and maybe follow the weight watchers plan for pregnancy, it is overll just healthy eating. Eat your normal portions. Keep this in mind, while pregnant the only extra calories you need are equivalent to eating a snickers bar each day, that's not too many extra calories. I think many of us eat what is equivalet in calories to 'a few' snicker bars.
