Maybe it's just me but...

...I just don't get the concept of having a groom's cake? Would that make a wedding cake the 'bride's cake' Don't get me wrong I actually think their really cute but if the above is true then wouldn't you want somethat that symbolizes you together not seperately on your wedding day? Can someone clarify for me...I'm a lil confused

groom's cake is a southern tradition
since the wedding is usually very feminine and more for hte bride ( you know ruffles and lace and all that stuff lol) the groom's cake reflects something of the groom's personality!

i wanted to do a Ranger's cake as a surprise for FH but i dont know if i will now bc he saw someone had a cake with a beer bottle and he made a comment about it ( it wasnt very nice) so i think maybe he wouldnt like it and they are kind of expensive!

I agree!! i think they are adorable because they could be more fun rather than fancy/pretty. I was actually talking to FH about it and if we had one he'd want a chefs hat

I think they look awesome.. but i dont understand it either.

I thought the wedding cake was for the bride and groom.. I only saw the grooms cake after joining this site.

I even showed FH.. and he wanted to know what it was for..

Yeah its definately not a new tradition, I lived in Atlanta for a few years and they all do them there, its a southern thing...
I was thinking of doing one for FH at the rehersal dinner, but I am thinking of other 'surprises' for him that I think he might like better...

I heard that 'back in the day'.... the groom's cake was sliced and placed in boxes that single females were supposed to put under their pillow so they could dream about their future husbands....

silly, but i think that like many wedding 'traditions,' they carry on just for the sake of tradition, and not for what they originally meant

I think its a way to have bakeries make more money. Its a cute idea if you are rich, but I'm not into it. One cake that doesnt get completely eaten is enough for me!

What I think it is, that the wedding day is so focused on the bride it gives the groom a chance to be in the spot light.

I read up on this for you girls! The groom's cake was traditionally a fruit cake (which symbolized fruitfulness) and was sliced up and put in special bags to give to single woman to put under their pillows so they can dream about their future husbands.

instead of a 'groom's cake' the day of the wedding...im surprising fh with a 'grooms cake' for the rehearsal dinner. even though fils are paying for the rehearsal...i want to have a cake that's specifically for him...mostly in flavors etc that he likes since the wedding cake is going to be more to my liking than his (i dont like chocolate and he does).

and since we are going to have dessert then anyway...i thought it would be a cute idea to jazz up the dessert.

Oh ok...that's cute. I like all the creative ways that certain traditions come about. Like the bridal party is supposed to ward away spirits by dressing alike, etc. So fun!

Yeah its a big southern tradition, and it's a little something for the groom that you usually surprise with him and shows a bit of his personality. I am getting him a groomscake, either a yankee cake or casino themed...I want to get it in the shape of a yankee jersey with his number and name on it

i didnt understand the tradition either...but i think it is nice to do somethng special just for him (personally), since he is letting me pick and decide a lot of things! i will probably do it for the rehearsal dinner....when is everyone else going to do the grooms cake?i can't wait to get it made, i bet it will end up being $$...but i just love surprising him! i am prob also gunna get a small cake to go with it (his favorite bakery cake is only like 6 bucks) and it tastes yummy....just in case the grooms cake dosnt taste that good (he is a picky eater, i'm sure other people will eat it)

its not usually announced or anythng like that or made a big presentation of, they can bring it out with the wedding cake and many times they'll place them together on a table, its up to you though if thats what you want.
