maybe someone can clarify this for me..

maybe someone can clarify this for me..

ok so heres the deal... the BM we were dealing with at our RH is no longer there and we are now dealing with someone else who i have never met

so anyway FH gets a call today reminding him that a payment is due in a few days and fh agreed and said im pretty sure is about 2000 and the BM kinda chuckeled and said no sir... 50% of your TOTAL is due in a few days... so as FH understands lets say the RH totall is 18,000 we owe 9,000 in a few days... mind you we have already been paying towards the balance 6500 to be exact.. so How i understood this is that we owed the difference between the 6500 and the 9000, which would be 2500, right??

well FH understands thats not the case that we owe 9000 in a few days and then the last payment would be the 2500

IM SO CONFUSED.. is this normally the way it works????

Hmmm, meg. I dunno. Do you have all of your payments on file? Receipts, etc? I hope...?

Re: maybe someone can clarify this for me..

absolutely... i do.. and i read the contract a 100 times.. it says 50% of the total is due 2 months prior.. so to me that means my account total should be 9000 by april 13th.. not 15500...

i mean its 6 to 1 half a dozen to another.. either way its got to be paid.. but i just think they should be alittle more specific with thier payments if this is right... i mean who can come up with 9000 in 7 days thank god weve been putting money away.. cuz theres a HUGE difference between 2500 and 9000

Yeah, I think you sound right. Let's play it like this:

Total is $18,000
You leave a $1000 deposit.
50% of balance due 2 months before.
Balance due 2 weeks before.

So by April 18th you should have paid off $9000?
You have already paid $6500 of this $9000?

Then you should only have to pay what you are short from the $9000.

With the balance still due 2 weeks before (or whatever) but I would DEFINITELY check the wording on the contract.

Plus there is always the chance that the new BM didn't look at your contract and didn't see that you have already made the other payments.

You know what Meg - I think they're right. If it says 50% of the TOTAL is due, then yes, you'd have to pay the $9K......

Right - I'd check and see if it's the 'TOTAL PAYMENT' or 'BALANCE' - two different things...

thats EXACTLY how i understand the contract!! and both of our families as well.. i mean i dont mind paying it since i either pay it now or 2 weeks before the wedding thats not the point.. the point is WHAT IF I DIDNT HAVE IT!!!

Re: maybe someone can clarify this for me..

each hall structures their payments differently, so i'd suggest checking your contract to be sure ... or calling the hall just to confirm before you make the payment.

but to me,

50% of the TOTAL means:

HALF THE TOTAL minus PAYMENTS MADE

so if your total RH bill is $10,000
then 50% of the total = $5,000
and you've made $2,000 in payments
so you'd owe $5,000 - $2,000
= $3,000 amount due now

50% of the BALANCE is different.

so if your total RH bill is $10,000
and you've made $2,000 in payments
then your balance is $8,000
and 50% of that is $4,000

BIG difference! Its worth the phone call

i agree big difference.. and FH supposidely asked this question and the BM said half of the TOTAL and was told that 9000 was due i think there was a huge misunderstanding between the 2 of them.. plus fh doesnt always listen to the WHOLE conversation either.. so im going to call tomorrow and get to the bottom of this.. liek they say.. if you want something done right.. DO IT YOURSELF!

IDK...we just keep giving them $ whenever we have it. I would assume since they haven't called us looking for our March payment that they would just apply either the February money we didn't have to pay or the October money we overpaid to our account.

also wanted to add, that i think i remember our hall gave us a sheet that indicated the $$ amount and exactly when it was due by.

and whenever we went to make a payment, they gave us an updated sheet.

maybe check your files to see if there is something like that in your records??

he could look but ive read the contract and the way i understand its 50% of the balance minus the payments youve made.. so i would owe the difference.. and i had my parents read it to make sure i was understanding correctly.. and they said yes.. so the only way im going to find out for sure is to call the reception hall..

You think they are open??? its almost 9?

its a friday night ... they're probably there, but possibly in the midst of an event.

not sure you'd get the right answers with all the chaos going on.

Re: maybe someone can clarify this for me..

i also have it broken down in my contract

every hall is different. We made a deposit and had about 8-9 payments to make since we got engaged. The way they did the payments and broke it down is to add up to 50% of our balance. So after all our payments which we made our last payment in February, the total left is exactly 50% and we owe that 10 days before the wedding
