so last night DH is in the shower and yells for me to keep him company....
NOT LIKE THAT!
he was in the shower, i was sitting on the counter. so he's telling me how he gave his co-worker my number cause she's getting married next year and needs help and advice and stuff... i was like 'okay'. so he's telling me all this stuff and i'm telling him what to tell her.
so he's like... yea then she told me that a DOC was $1000...
i was like... 'okay? i'm pretty sure thats average...' so we're talking about this and i'm like 'hell, i'll be her DOC' he's like... 'i told her that....'
so we get into this convo about me being a DOC. he's like 'you're like a freaking pitbull, you don't take ***** from vendors, i'm sure you'd be great' i always wanted to plan weddings... i mean, i know mine wasn't that... awesome, i mean like.. we had a TIGHT budget, but if my budget wasn't so tight, i would have done/had a lot more... AND i learned at my wedding what to worry about and what not to worry so much about. but yea, so i always wanted to do that, but i have no background or anything.
sooo... what i'm getting at. if his coworker asks me to help her and be her DOC... should i do it? like... what if i mess up?

Re: me?? a DOC??
if you want to do it, i say you should BUT make sure she knows that you have no experience (other than planning your own wedding).
You should also set up a contract that says that you're not liable for anything that goes wrong and blah blah blah. And obviously also the cost & payment schedule.
ETA: and make sure she understands that there's no pressure whatsoever to use you.

a piece of advice:
back away from the wedding~
I have planned weddings for 6 years and it is tough. everyone things its easy when it is their own, because you have no one to answer to.
you have to know how to keep a budget, be a multitasker, think of the fly, problem solve, get yelled at, belittled, and run around on your feet for 12 hours, all while doing it with a smile on your face.
if you have no experience with vendors (except your own wedding) they dont necessarily take you seriously, and if something gets messed up, reguardless if you did it or not, it will ALWAYS be your fault. you also have to know what to look for whats NOT going right, not necessarily what is going right.
not saying that this would happen, and im sure you would do a good job, but for someone who has been there its very very hard. and you wouldnt want to ruin a work relationship your FH has

ITA! Definitely go for it!! Even if you only ever do the one wedding, at least you tried it and got some cash in your pocket, too! And it might turn out that you're really good at this and it could turn into a business. Good luck!

Sounds like every other customer service job under the sun.

Maybe do a couple (like 2 or 3 weddings) to gain experience and let your pay be there referrrences. Set up your website and make your business plan, cards and whatever other technicalities you need to do like if you wanna be a LLC or something. I would say go for it. Nothing beats a failure but a try.

I say go for it! That is the one regret that I have from my wedding...not hiring a DOC...I hope she asks and that you LOVE it!

Re: me?? a DOC??
Y'know... something just occurred to me, too... a DOC is a far cry from a wedding planner. You'd definitely need some sort of contract to outline exactly what she wants you to do! Just thought of that!

ITA... Its worth a shot - so long as you cover your self with a contract...

Re: me?? a DOC??
I think sometimes women plan their wedding and then think they can plan everyone elses. Even for awhile I thought it seemed like a 'glamorous job' being around weddings all the time. But there's SOOO much more to it. Also, I think it takes a certain type of personality to be able to be a DOC.
I know there are a few 2010 girls who are DOCs. I'm sure they wouldn't mind sharing their experience!
