Mean family memebers

Mean family memebers

I am so sad. My father has been acting mean to me ever since I got engaged. It's weird like he's mad at me. My FH is the greatest guy. Such a doll. I love him to death. Pop said yesterday he doesn't want to hear anything about the wedding. If he doesn't like something on the wedding day or at the rehearsal dinner he's gonna walk out. Why is he being like this.

SOOO SAD during what's supposed to be a happy time. yuck!

so sorry to hear

Can you talk to him privately about how this is making you feel?

Maybe there is a reason you don't know about that's making him act this way.

Maybe he's upset that he's losing his little girl? Maybe he's having a hard time dealing, are you the first born? Have you talked with him about this?

Can you ask your dad what is wrong? Has he ever expressed a dislike for your FH? All dads feel sad about 'losing' their little girls, but there is no reason he should be mean.
Maybe you can have a heart to heart talk with your dad and find out the root of this problem.
Good luck

i i'm sorry! it really sounds like your dad is having a hard time ' letting you go', so to speak.... hes probably afriad of loosing his 'little girl', and doesnt' know how to handle it., so hes acting like this. LOL don't i sound like Dr. Phil?? seriously though, i know sometimes when i'm upset at something, i'll start acting weird instead of talking about things like i should.... i don't have any advice really, but just wanted to give you

excellent advice guys. thanks for caring. I will have such a hard time talking with him b/c he doesn't express himself well as it is. I am so mad and hurt myself i don't even want to see him. He never really expressed any hatred towards my fh but you guys are right, he's probably going through a 'I'm losing my first born daughter' thing. Only being mean to me about it instead of having us enjoy our last couple of months under the same roof. It still bugs me out that he's so mean about it. I vow to never be mean to my daughter or son EVER! Thanks guys

I think he is feeling like he has lost you...you need to be nice to him even when you know he is being mean..I think after a while parents start acting like kids and we need to be more grown up...

I know my mom does this, she gets mad at small things and i need to talk to her and tell her i love her and do for her what she has done for me when i was younger and frankly I was a brat so I try my hardest to understand my folks now...

I guess talk to him and tell him it doesnt matter that you are gettign married...he will always be an important man in your life and you need him for so much still..and that your relationship will not change...

hope it works out..

Re: Mean family memebers

Trust me I went through the same thing with my dad for the first few weeks of our engagement. He didn't want to hear anything wedding related and I guess in his own way he was trying to cope with what's happening. I guess we can't really put ourselves in their shoes because we aren't parents yet but I can only imagine how hard it must be to let go of your child that you've cared after for so many years. I know my dad is sad and in a sense so am I, but he's coming around now because I think he understands that if he's not happy with me it will ruin my wedding day. That's what u have to communicate to your father and I'm sure that if you approach him he'll open up to u and then u can reassure him that even though you're getting married he will never lose u. HTH
