Medical Insurance Question

Does anyone know if people can be on two insurances at once? I am currently only working PT now and was paying COBRA which was a huge expense so when we got married I went on DH's insurance. His insurance kind of sucks - the only good thing being that there are no co-pays for office visits or presciptions. When I find a FT job and start getting health benefits again - can I have my insurance too and when I go to a doctor - decide which one I want to use? - depending on what works out better for me??
Thanks!

Re: Medical Insurance Question

If you decide to get your job's insurance then that would be your primary insurance and if you remain on DH's insurance that would be your secondary.

Re: Medical Insurance Question

Right - but can choose which one I want to use at certain doctors? For example - my OB-GYN takes both insurances, so I'd prefer to use my husband's insurance at that office since there are no co-pays - can i do that?

Re: Medical Insurance Question

No you can't choose which one you want to use. You have to use your primary. If OB/GYN accepts both you have to use your primary but your DH's insurance may reimburse for your co-pay or if you inform the doc's biller they may bill your secondary for the co-pay. But you have to find out in advance if your DH's insurance will pay for the co-pay. My mom is on her and my dad's insurance and my dad's insurance always reimburses her for the co-pay.
