Meet the newest member of our family...

I'm so excited. A week and a half ago FI and I decided to make a trip to the Humane Society to check on a dog we saw on Petfinder.com. We've been looking for months for a dog to adopt. We had specific qualifications-had to be small, non-shedding b/c of my allergies, and not too old. The dog we went there for was already adopted, but we lucked out in the end.

This is Baxter, he's a 1 1/2 year old Lhasa-poo. He's housebroken and just an all round good dog.
The only problem we're having is that he doesn't like to be in his crate when we leave the house. He barks non-stop. Anyone have any advice?

Ah how cute! I love the way his head is tilted in the last picture.

My dog Gizmo is a shih tzu, but he is the same way with crates. He barks and barks and cries and barks until he starts giving himslef coughing fits. In September he lost a tooth from trying to bite his way out of the crate Needless top say I don't leave him in a crate... but he is almost 13 and already trained, he pretty much behaves out side of the crate.
Good Luck!

Try giving him a stuffed kong, these things have been life-savers with our puppy.

Thank you so much for this tip. We bought a kong last friday, and Baxter loves it already. We put it in his crate, and then whenever we get home he carries it around our apartment, and chews on it whenever he can!

He still crys and barks though when we leave him!

Try putting him in the crate for just a couple of minutes with a treat and then praise him and let him out. Keep extending the amount of time he's in there. If he starts barking or crying just ignore him, because if you make a fuss over him it will reinforce the bad behavior.
