Re: Meet the parents
Well our parents crossed paths once at our graduation., but before we got engaged..he planned a dinner at our favorite restaurant(neutral territory). It took a lot of pressure for us after the engagement for them to meet.
FH's parents had us over., and then the opposite.

Re: Meet the parents
my parents invited FH parents over for dinner...
they met once before briefly at the airport
i was freaking out but 6 hours later it was fine...
but FH and i did not think we needed to facilite anything... bc the parents stepped on it already... if your parents or his dont.. then a summer BBQ can be real easy and relaxed.

My parents are very european, his parents are very americanized(is that a word) lol...well his mother was born here but his dad wasnt he came when he was a kid though...Different cultures, different religions, and it worked out great

Re: Meet the parents
I am glad i don't have to deal with that so much. FH's parents are no longer with us since FH was rather young. His sister raised him so when my parents met his sister and husband it was rather understood they wouldn't be friends just friendly. We had dinner together once and they invited my parents to a bbq in which my parents hardly talked to anyone. Fh and I enjoy it this way because its less stress on me of all people trying to get people to be buddies when they are just two different types of peoples.

Re: Meet the parents
About 2 months after the engagement, my family and his family (siblings included) went out to dinner for the first time. FH's parents didn't consider us engaged until the families met (asian tradition), so we had to do it.
It was pretty nervewracking, I must admit. FH and I put together a short list of topics that we thought the parents could talk about if any awkward moments came up (we pretty much used our entire list).
But at the end, I think it went okay....so I'm sure yours will too!

Same here... A little while after we got engaged, my parents invited FH's entire family over for dinner.... The whole clan!!! (Big family!)... I was freaking out (my family is old school off the boat, can't even speak english... his family is americanized - I think it is a word! lol) but things actually went impressingly well... Somehow someway, it turned out they actually had a lot in common... who knew! lol and you didn't even notice the broken english lol it's like they spoke the same language lol.... They spent the whole night sharing embarassing baby stories/pics about me and FH and our sibs... It actually was alot of fun (minus the embarassing stories lol)... They even got together again for the holidays... FH's parents had my family over at their house...
Don't fret... if you don't want the stress of having/making dinner on the homefront (it is stressful because you want everything to come out perfect), you and your FH can just round up everyone and get together at a favorite restaurant - neutral territory - and everyone can get to know each other... It will all go well... How much worst can it be than 2 groups of people who don't even speak the same language? lol

Re: Meet the parents
I am from upstate so my parents don't get here too often. Right after we moved I had my mom and dad come down and bring my couch. My FH and I set it up so we had 2 hours of relaxing/chatting/hors d'oeuvre at our new apartment and then we went out to lunch. My FH and I paid for everyone. It was so nice! And I think my FH's 85 year old nan wants a piece of my dad.....

Re: Meet the parents
My parents dont make the effort to do anything, so i doubt there will ever be a formal get together before the wedding as long as his parents dont mind.(my parents are divorced)
