Meeting with a DJ

Meeting with a DJ tomorrow. What questions should be asked and what's a good price range?

Thanks guys!

I am not good at what questions to ask, but if you're looking for a basic package i'd say between $1500 and $1800 is a decent range.

I'm not sure exactly what we're looking for....lol

We just want a good dj for the 4 hours (not for the CH), no MC, no giveaways (not looking for a block party feel)...not sure what else we should expect. Any ideas?

I'm getting married in CT, so I apologize for any 'travel' related qs I may have left in here w/ my question list:

1. Do you have a backup crew?

2. Do you use records or a laptop?

3. Can we give you a play list and a do not play list?

4. What happens if a guest requests a song on the do not play list?

5. Have you ever DJ’ed at Woodwinds before?

6. Do you have insurance?

7. How long have you been DJing for?
8. What percentage of your business is from weddings?

9. How early do you arrive to set up?

10. What do the DJs wear during the reception?

11. How much would it cost for an additional hour?

12. How many song choices do you have available?

13. Do you have backup equiptment?

14. Does the DJ work with the Matre’d to run everything? Cake cutting, speeches, etc.

15. Do you have a microphone system that is portable?

16. Can we request sound adjustments? (Quiet during CH & dinner)

17. Would you be our DJ? If not, do we meet with them personally?

18. How much is the deposit?

19. What is the payment plan?

20. What is the travel fee?

21. Will there be music played while the DJ is on a break? How many breaks does he usually take?

22. Do you use professional equipment?

23. Do you need tablecloths or linens for your table?

24. What is the music source?

25. When do you suggest booking by?

very helpful list!!! Now if only i could find an AFFOIRDABLE DJ in my budget that specializes in latin music and has bilingual MC's, I'd be set!

Good luck, you should definitely ask if you can give do not play lists, what you want them to play, etc. Not sure what basic packages are. You should definitely check out Tommy's Tunes. We're using them but are getting plasma tvs, etc so I don't remember what the basic package was. FM me if you would like more info and I will look it up when I get home. Good luck!

Re: Meeting with a DJ

Sorry guys....just saw there were so many responses to this.

We met with More Than Music and booked them on the spot! They were just what we were looking for! They're a part of Hank Lane productions with 15 DJ's. I HIGHLY reccommend them!

Thanks for all the advice :)
