Meeting with the church tonight.....

Meeting with the church tonight.....

and I'm a nervous wreck! What can I expect? My two future-sisters-in-law have freaked me out by telling me that the priest will ask VERY personal questions and actually has the right to deny a couple the right to be married in the catholic church! They said that he will interview us together and then separately. My FH and I live together which we won't be sharing with the Priest. Will he ask how often we go to church? When the last time we went to confession was??

Was anyone else as freaked out as I am?

I remeber that meeting. I was a little nervous myself. we told the church we are living together. even in precana they said we know most of you probably live together, etc, etc. just be yourself and answer honestly. thats what we did and everything went fine.

Dont worry. Our priest was so nice. He asked us how we met, when we knew the other was the one (a specific moment) what marriage was, nothing too difficult. My FI and I were nervous going in but it was really nice the priest told us he wanted to get a feel for us as a couple as he would most likley be the one marrying us. Dont stress. THe only probelm we had was that we had to change our date because the mass we wanted wasnt available but it wasnt that bad.

nah it's not that big of a deal. at least i wasn't nervous. well a bit. but they say 'are you getting married of your own free will' - that's the question that they ask of you separately. with my situation, priest knew FH was not american citizen yet so he asked a few more questions but it's not like we're marrying for green card so i answered honestly.

i also know the priest a bit becasue he knew my mother very well so i was a bit more at ease. FH though was a wreck although he says he wasn't. I could tell!

seriously, no biggie, i think they asked if i was married before too. you'll do fine!

God that was so long ago... but I remember some of the questions,

Are you related by blood?
Are you mentally sound?
Can you have children?
Do you plan to have children?
What do you do for a living?

And a few more. We told our priest that we lived together. He said that nowadays most couples do, and he's glad we told him to his face and he did not have to find out via answering machine, when leaving messages for brides and grooms.

So change your outgoing message!!!!!!!

He did not ask us about our attendance in the church or connfessional.

All in all the whole thing is so not scary. I was petrified as well, but it's really no big deal!!

Relax. We did not have a problem.

The only questions he asked was this sheet he had about whether he were getting married by our own free will, etc. I heard it's Pre-cana that gets personal and hits topics to prepare you for marriage.

oh,,,I was told,,,,never let the church know you chose a reception first! The church is always supposed to be first (of make them think they are)
