My father passed away on 9-11-01 and when I send out my invitations I want to have something written at the bottom of the invitation in memorial to him ... is that possible?? and if it is what can I have written?

Re: Memorial quote on my invitations?
I am sure it is possible. Just tell whoever is doing them that you want it on there. I also think whatever you want to write is fine. I can't say what to put because it is personal I don't know what to say.

Re: Memorial quote on my invitations?
Most people save something like that for the wedding programs.
does everyone make programs or is it something that isn't always done... also i was thinking the invites because most invites say something like 'mr and mrs so and so (the parents) ask you to join them in the marrage of their daughter' and since I cant write that I was thinking of saying something else .... I dunno what to do....

i would also save it for the program, not the invite.

Re: Memorial quote on my invitations?
I dunno, while it's commonly reserved for wedding programs, it still YOUR invitations. I never took the rigid wording and styling of invitations very seriously.... I personally find some of those etiquette rules and saying to be rather cold and impersonal...
you can write WHATEVER you like. why not something along the lines of:
you are cordially invited to witness the wedding of DINA, daughter of momAMATUCCIO and the beloved dadAMATUCCIO, to FH, son of mom and dad FIANCEE.
My dad passed away a long time ago.... The official 'rule' is that he cannot be mentioned on the invitation becuase he is departed and cannot 'host' an event anymore. I'd love to know what evil witch originally said that on their etiquette board, subsequently forcing mourning brides and grooms to make pretend their other parent never existed...

i think its a beautiful idea, and it can definitely be done. I've seen it done before.
I'm sure your Dad is your hero, and I'm so sorry for your loss
A friend also lost her Dad, and this is how she worded hers:
Mrs. (Your Last Name) and the late Mr. (your last name), our 9/11 Hero request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Your Name to FH
etc. etc. etc.

Re: Memorial quote on my invitations?
i agree- you can write whatever you want on your invite- while tradition might not agree with this- who cares? so much of weddings is non-traditional anyway! It is about you and your FH, not what some old biddy who receives the invite and says- oh, that's not etiquette, thinks!

i REALLY like this!! its a memorial, but its not TOO much for the invitation-- then, maybe you can put a longer one in the program..... sorry for your loss

what a great idea!! i agree, you should be able to word your invitation any way you want - especially if it means more to you than following etiquette!!!

same for me....I wanted to included my dad on the invite, but the wording was just too much for the invite I chose. I'll be mentioning him in our programs and I'll have a memorial candle burning at the reception w/ a picture of him next to it.

Re: Memorial quote on my invitations?
i think it's perfectly fine to put whatever you want on your invitations. I think it's important to include your father on the invitation.
if other poeple have a problem with that... too bad!
A friend of mine worded it the 'normal' way and after her father's name wrote 'in memorium' or however you spell that. I also like the other posters suggestion of 'our 9/11 hero'
Do what you want to do. Don't let anyone make you feel like you're doing the wrong thing.

Re: Memorial quote on my invitations?
You could also write your invitation like a traditional invitation and then at the bottom have a little '*' and write something like 'this mass will also honor Mr. ________ __________ with the date 9-11-01. I have also attached a link with often used phrases for someone who has passed. You could stick one in after his name and before the date.
you and your mom should do whatever you want....i found a lot of quotes for you if you want for the program...nothing so great for the invitation per se, but i really like the 9-11 hero one.
Though we be separated by the whole wide world, You are ever present in my mind. - Ovid (Publius Ovidius Naso)
Courage You'll Never Walk Alone When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm Is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone
-You'll Never Walk Alone
You are the Wind Beneath My Wings
You might have thought it went unnoticed but I've got it all here in my heart. I want you to know I know the truth That I would be nothing without you.
In Memory of You
I miss your being but I feel your presence, In whatever form you choose to take, however you now choose to be.
another idea that you could do, in place of traditional favors is donate to one of the 9-11 funds in memory of your dad and you can get a bookmark or whatever you like made up with pics of the two of you together, etc, etc.....one of my friends did that in memory of his grandmother and his wifes grandfather who passed away from diabetic complications.

Re: Memorial quote on my invitations?
My father passed away last year and although i'm not near picking out invitations, i've been debating whether to put his name on it as well. most people have told me not to do it, that it might look weird, but it just wouldn't feel right not to have him on it. i want to feel like he is a part of it all, you know.
i have seen at least one invitation that had the traditional wording with the mothers name first and then it said the late mr. so&so, etc. so it obviously isn't unheard of. i guess that is something to discuss with your family.
i'm also not sure, at this point, if i will have a program. if i do, i will definitely put something on there as a tribute/memorial for him. i also plan on having a memorial candle lit during the ceremony as well. i like the idea of his picture as well.

I love this idea. It's your wedding and your dad is still an important part of your life and recognizing him on your invitation is a wonderful way of acknowledging his importance.
