I was thinking of doing a memorial table for my father who passed away 5 years ago. I was thinking of making a candle, a picture frame with a family photo, and maybe another with a poem or a quote. I want everything to be made by me or a family member because it has a special meaning.
Has anyone started any DIY memorial projects?

My dad passed away as well and I will def. be doing something special for him. I know one thing I am doing is during my dance with my brother I will have a montage played by the dj of all pics of my dad and I. We always said that we would dance to Unforgettable on my wedding day so of course I am picking that song.

Re: Memorial Table
I am not doing a specific table set up.. However there is a fire mantle at my venue and I am putting framed pictures of me & my mom and my FH and his dad both who have passed as well as our grandparents. We decided against anything else because we dont want people to get over emotional about our loved ones who have passed.

Re: Memorial Table
My Husbands Mother passed away a year ago today and we lit a memory candle in the start of our ceremony for her, and they said a little prayer
My Husband didnt want a huge thing for the reception since this was all still fresh- he wanted to be able to enjoy himself. He danced his mother son dance with his aunt, and the DJ mentioned a little something at that time about his mother. We also had a montage playing at this time..
Good luck girls! its a very hard thing to deal with

I'm doing the same thing. My mom passed away 9 1/2 years ago so I got a glass canister from Michael's, velum paper and a floating candle. I found the perfect poem I am going to print on the velum paper then wrap it around the canister. I also got simple decorations (rhinestone hearts and plain stones) to put at the top and the bottom of the poem on the velum paper. And next to the candle at the wedding I have a beautiful picture of my mom that I've always loved and it will be there as well.
Good luck.

Re: Memorial Table
DH father passed away years before our wedding and at our ceremony we had the priest say that this ceremony was dedicated to all those that couldn't be here today and are in our prayers especially (insert name here). Then we both lit a memorial candle together.

Re: Memorial Table
My DH's dad passed away about a year before our wedding and we were married on Father's Day. I asked DH if he wanted to do a candle or a montage. He's very emotional, so he knew for him it would make him too sad and pull from the joy of the day.
We kept our tributes more personal
We listed DH's dad in the program with other relatives who have passed. He was first. We used FIL's tallis instead of a chuppah during our ceremony.
At the reception we didn't do a separate table but we did have pictures of us through the years and family pictures , so we put several special pictures of DH and his dad out along with his parents' wedding photo. There were regular candles on the table so it looked very nice.
I was very close with my grandmother, so i had a charm on my bo-k with a pic of her on one side and my grandfather (whom I never met) on the other side from their wedding day. My wedding band was my grandmothers, but it wasn't announced as such, nor was the tallis announced as being FILs. We kept it very personal.

I just want to say I'm so sorry for all your losses, but find it so beautiful that you have special memorials planned for your weddings
Both sets of my fiance's grandparents & aunt and my 2 grandfathers, 1 grandmother & aunt are no longer with us, so I plan to engrave a glass hurricane that I bought with a poem and their names. I also plan to put a dedication in our ceremony program, also with their names in it.

Re: Memorial Table
I've seen like bo-k charms I think they are called? you can put a little picture and have it hanging on your bok. I might do something like that for my brother who died in 2004. or just a special candle on our table for him. I don't want to do anything too crazy because my cousin did a whole dedication/speech to him at her sweet 16 and had everyone hysterically crying, esp my dad.
last thing I need is hysterical parents, and god my grandma lol she gets so dramatic. she already kept trying to convince me to do a photo montage dedication like 20x for him at the wedding. I was like it's our wedding it's about us! though I am sure if we do a montage I'd throw in pictures of me as a kid obviously with my brother :) but that's it.

These are all great ideas. I've been thinking about this, since neither FH or I have any grandfathers left, and we want to do something to honor them. So far I've thought about making 'Reserved' signs for three seats at the ceremony, and putting the grandfathers' pictures on the chairs, but I'm worried no one will see them. These are great other options!
