We are doing the 'unity' candle lighting during our ceremony. FH paren't have both passed away, so I was going to make a candle with a memory poem to use. Is that not right? Do you girls think the memory candle should be used on the table at the RH with the pictures and we should have a canlde for the two of us for the ceremony?

Re: memory candle vs. unity candle
I've never seen a memory candle done in a ceremony before, but I don't see why you couldn't incorporate that into yours. I would speak to your officiant and see what they think. You could do it directly following your unity candle having FH light the candle in memory of his parents, while a person reads the poem of tribute, since your guests won't be close enough to read the poem if its placed on the candle. You could also just do a candle in their memory at the RH, both are a very nice idea

Re: memory candle vs. unity candle
we are doing a memory candle, but not a unity candle. i don't see why you can't have both at the ceremony. usually the memory candle is lit early on in the ceremony and the officiant should say something about what it represents. that way everyone know will know the difference. and then you can light the unity candle later on.

Re: memory candle vs. unity candle
I am doing the memory candle for my mother and the sand ceremony.
I am going to have Father Joe say a cute little poem to let people know why there is a candle lit.
But dumb question, what do i do after the ceremony...
Where do i put it?
I also wanted to get the vase that holds a single flower and put my mothers' favorite flower in it and put it at the dias...my family will know what its for
I'm not sure if i like the idea of the candle sitting next to me lit....is that what people do with it?

Re: memory candle vs. unity candle
I'm doing the memorial candle at the RH and mentioning 'IN Loving Memory' in the programs for FH father's and my grandmother. I don't see why you couldn't do it at the ceremony though.
