Menus - Indian food - Buffets ...

Hi,

I am looking for suggestions. I am having Indian food for my reception buffet style.

Are menus traditionally made for buffets? I think not.. but I am not sure.

Secondly, I will be having non-Indian guests. If I do not have menus, should I have a description of what the food is? Who thinks I should have 1 italian dish or something?

Has anyone gone to receptions where they served ethnic foods of any kind? How did they do this?

Thanks!

i don't think you need menus, but you might want to have some kind of description of the food on the buffet.

Mixing in 1 italian dish with a ton of Indian food might be a little strange! I would just make sure that there is a large selection including simple food that even if someone doesn't like indian food they'll still be able to eat. steamed chicken, plain vegetables etc.

i agree that you dont need a menu if you are having a buffet. also, if you opt to have other food for those who may not like indian, my opinion is that you should offer a variety and not just one dish. my FBIL and FSIL had indian food at their wedding, but they also had 'american' food for those guests who did not like indian food.

Yes please add a plain chicken dish or a pasta even. I went to a 6 hour long Indian wedding once and literally almost collapsed after only having a piece of tomatoe that I had to beg for. It was horrible. I was not prepared for that at all.

I don't think you need to add any other non-Indian dishes. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of a lot of Indian food, but I went to an all-Indian buffet reception and it was fabulous! I loved that it was different from the typical food I usually get at weddings.

They didn't have a menu, but they had a small card next to each dish on the buffet with the name and a very brief notation of the main ingredients. The cards were done in a very pretty script font.

I went to a 400+ people Indian wedding at the Hilton and they had us wait like 4 hours beforre they served anything at all. Thats how I almost collapes. My Fh went to get my potato chips from the lobby store no joke. I dont know if thats a cultural thing or Hilton thing to make guests wait that long to get food. Just a little FYI. All the food had curry in it as well and I have an ulcer so there was no way.

I am just saying to take the diets of your guests in mind.

A note card next to each of the dishes at the Buffet table will definitely suffice. That way, everyone will know what is in each dish as they are about to have some.

That's what we did for our reception and what most people do if they have indian buffets. i definitely don't think a menu makes sense for a buffet since there's so much selection.

i would like to know (if i'm not familiar with teh food) what i'll be eating so i wouldn't mind the menu. in fact, i would appreciate it as your guest at your wedding. plus, it's a nice added detail (nice paper, nice font, etx).

I had a chinese menu at my wedding. i also had a few non-chinese guests show up and i know there's a stigma about chinese food. altho it's all jokes and all but non-asian folks seem to think we all eat dogs or cats which is the totally wrong.
we enjoy them as our pets =)

my friend helped me create a menu (see below) where i placed at each person's plate. this helped understand what was coming next and briefly what they'll be having.

ps. sorry about the huge menu. dunno how to make it smaller.
