All of us at the Mets are bitterly disappointed in failing to achieve our collective goal of building upon last year's success. We did not meet our organization's expectations -- or yours. Everyone at Shea feels the same range of emotions as you -- our loyal fans -- and we know we have let you down. We wanted to thank you for your record-breaking support of our team this year.
Equally important, Ownership will continue its commitment in providing the resources necessary to field a championship team. Omar will be meeting with Ownership shortly to present his plan on addressing our shortcomings so that we can achieve our goal of winning championships in 2008 and beyond.
You deserve better results.
Many thanks again for your record-breaking support.

I heard about that. It's so pathetic.
No need for an apology. Come back next year, try harder, and make the playoffs.
That's all.
I also heard that the GM would neither confirm nor deny that Willie Randolf will be fired.

I know it s u c k s. They don't refund the money though. We had playoff tix last year and since they didn't make it to the world series, that money was applied to our season tickets for this season.

I also read somewhere, not sure where, that the Mets lost because of inexperience.
I was like
The Mets are far from a 'young' team -- Moises Alou and Tom Glavin are definitely NOT lacking experience.
I wish that was their problem -- then it would be explainable, at least.

Oh ok, maybe it's because we went into the NLCS. We don't have every game, just the saturday home games which they still consider season tickets.

There are a few young players like Wright and Reyes, but there are a number that are in their 30s. They're definitely not a young team.

Right - and Wright and Reyes are two of their strongest. So, even though they're young - they're both pretty solid.
(P.S. Wright is 3 years younger than me.... Jesus.)
My favorite part of a Mets game - mind you, I haven't been to one at Shea since last year, game 2 of the NLDS v. St. Louis - is when Reyes gets up, and the entire stadium cheers, 'Jose, Jose, Jose, Jose, Joseeee, Joooseeeeee.'
I found myself singing that at home - every time we watched a game and he was up. And sometimes, just randomly.

They do that most of the time he's up to bat, except this past month when he couldn't hit for sh*t!
It does boggle my mind how there are so many of these players younger than me and make $$$$$$$$$$$$$

I know -- I know...... I really think athletes are soooo overpaid.
Random facts:
Ryan Howard makes just $950,000 per year. His contract is up at the end of next year.
And, Matt Holliday -- he plays for the Rockies, is sooooooo yummy. He's up for MVP, with J-Roll.

The mets definitely do have some dinosaurs BUT they also have lots of inexperienced (young)players and it's been showing (the fact that Reyes and Milledge don't run out plays and forget how many outs there are - COME ON)! Reyes may be the best baserunner in the major leagues, but he tends to make LOTS of mental errors, and I think that's what they mean about the team being young/inexperienced.
BUT with that said, here are the numbers: Reyes - 24 y/o Wright - 24 Milledge - 22 Gotay - 24 Gomez - 21!!! Humber - 24 A. Hernandez - 24 Joe Smith - 23 Pelfrey - 23
There are also a number of players who are 25-30ish and are still in their first couple of years in the Majors. Not that that's an excuse, this was Johnny Maine's first full year in the majors and look at his last outting - best for the Mets all year with 14Ks and 1 hit!
Oh yea, I'm in love with John Maine.

Well, I think 24 is young -- in general, but, not all that young for MLB. They can draft from HS, unlike NFL, where they must wait until they are in their last (or second to last, I don't remember) year of college.
Most of those 24 year olds have been around since '03 and '04, I personally wouldn't call that inexperience, but, that's my opinion.
I just don't think their problem came from inexperience, they made the playoffs last year, and, they spent 95% of the season in first place. But, I really don't know what their problem was.
And, taking a quick look at the Yankees roster, they have about the same number of young players. So, I think that 'inexperience' thereby becomes somewhat invalid, regardless of talent. If two players both start in 2003, with no injuries, if they complete the season, they generally have the same amount of experience.
As far as Reyes being the best baserunner -- I think he might have to fight J-Roll for that..... I'm not sure he's as fast.
I love David Wright.

Jose Reyes is #1 in all of MLB with 78 SBs Jimmy Rollins is tied for #7 with 41 SBs...I dont think theres much of a debate there!
