Hi everyone! I had posted on the Honeymoon board but it doesn't look like it gets much action... what are your thoughts on honeymooning in Mexico? Is it safe despite the recent violence reports? FH and I are torn on whether or not we should keep it on our list of possibilities.

Re: Mexico for a honeymoon?
FH and I went to the Riviera Maya last summer.. it was absolutely gorgeous and would be great for a honeymoon spot. Its about a 45 min-1 hour ride from Cancun. We went to an all inclusive and just stayed on the resort, so no issues. Although my parents were there recently and left to check out the Mayan ruins which are nearby.

Mexico for a honeymoon?
We are going to Riviera Maya on our honeymoon staying at two all inclusive properties. We plan on spending the majority of our time on property and when going off property we will be staying with a tour guide. I feel comfortable with our decision.

Mexico for a honeymoon?
I went to Excellence Playa Mujeres as well. It was AMAZING. The resort is a gated community - lots of security. There wasn't a moment that I felt scared. I even left the resort a few times to go on 'tours'. Never once did I feel like I was in danger. I highly recommend it!

We are going to Mexico as well. As long as you stay on the resort and stick with tour guides you should be fine

Re: Mexico for a honeymoon?
I think you'll be fine just stay in the resort. also be careful what you keep in the safe in the room. my aunt and uncle went to Mexico (I think Cancun) last year or a few months ago, put like $800 cash in the safe before going para sailing. came back to only $200 left!
someone who worked at the hotel went into room while they were gone and used the key to open the safe to steal money. the resort did nothing, no one did anything.

I have been to Cozumel, Costa Maya and Playa del Carmen. All were gorgeous and we felt very safe. Just stick to organized activities that are within the resort (or offered by the resort) and you should be fine.

We stayed at secrets silver sands last summer. My FH has been to Maroma for a wedding and we are going to Secrets the Vine this August when it opens. Secrets are awesome and safe!

Re: Mexico for a honeymoon?
If I were going to Mexico, I would personally stick with an all inclusive resort and stick with their transportation, guided tours, etc.
