Mexico HM question . . .

Mexico HM question . . .

We are going to Riviera Maya, and the resort is really not within walking distance to anything, so we really need to either take a shuttle (to wherever a shuttle is offered) rent a car or take a taxi when we want to go off of the resort. What do you think the best option is - to take a cab or to rent a vehicle?

If I had that choice went we went, I would have rented a car. Cabs can be expensive, especially in that area.

when i got to cancun...my ffil once rented a car and once just took taxis...ye staxis were expensive but for the amount of time and the hassle of parking a car- well i vote for taxis!!!!

When I went, we only left the resort a few times and took taxis. You can also usually rent a car from the hotel once you are already there.

Taxis are safter, depending on how and where you are going. There are many areas in Mexico where you may get stopped by police asked to pay money for some random ticket. Its basically a bribe. I would suggest do research on tripadvisor and see what other people at that resort have done.

I have heard of this.
But what if you are going somewhere an hour away?

Bri, they have a daily shuttle that takes you to Cancun and one to Playa del Carmen. We are planning on just taking those since they're free and will probably take us directly to where the good places are.

the roads around there can be rough...if you are down for adventure, poor signage, giant ditches, and speeding taxis - then go for it!

Our resort includes a car to pick us up at the airport when we arrive in Mexico and drop us off when we depart.

I had my HM in Riviera Maya too and we passed your hotel!

I would definitely opt for taxis. They may add up after a while but still I promise you its the better option. You dont want to be driving around there - trust me!!!! Lots of them drive like maniacs - we thought NYC was bad. Um, no!

You also dont want to be pulled over for whatever reason just because you are a tourist, etc. I would also say you dont want to be bothered with the hassle of directions, etc.

We took cabs all over and it wasnt that much money. In fact the cab from our hotel in Riviera Maya, (RIU Palace) to Playa Del Carmen was $4. From there I believe you can take a ferry to Cozumel.

We also went on 2 excursions and took a bus to Coba & Tulum.

My mother just heard about this on tv and don't think for one second that she didn't want me to change my honeymoon. I say take a taxi.

I'm staying at Maya Riviera too--one week later!

I would say taxi. Our travel agent said the roads are crazy, drivers don't follow rules, etc. She recommended cabs, so that's what we'll be doing. I don't think we're going to leave often, other than to take ruins tours.

Have a fun time!

We took cabs everywhere and it wasn't that bad (we stayed at the Royal Hideaway) I think our most expensive cab was to/from Cancun and that was about $40.

My vote is for cabs

We are going to Royal Hideaway for our 1 year anniversary and we plan on taking taxis when we go off the resort.

Princess Rachel... Lets spilt the cab fare!!

We are going to Xel-ha. i am sure they don't have buses to that. What do you do then.

Here is a map of where it is. The Xel-Ha website says to rent a car or a take a taxi. I am just worried that it wil cost $$ for a taxi.

Xel-Ha is south of El Dorado Royale

Bri,
I just got my travel documents in the mail yesterday and wanted to let you know that the documents say that the shuttles to Cancun and Playa del Carmen are definitely included and run everyday.
