Hello trying to get some input we recently booked our honeymoon to Mexico and know i am hearing how dangerous it is. I looked on the map we are staying far away from U.S. border which is were all the problems are currently happening. We are staying at THE ROYAL Playa del Carmen. Any input? Anyone else book to Mexico?

Re: Mexico Honeymoon
I actually decided to change my honeymoon to Mexico. We were going to the Mayan Riviera and leaving Monday the 16th. I'm sure it would have been fine but it was stressing out my whole family. My poor grandmother was calling every day to see if I was still going to go and I just decided it wasn't worth it. We had trip insurance and Travel Tom helped me rebook everything. He was awesome! Even though he probably thought I was crazy for wanting to change - he said we'd be perfectly safe - he helped me find an awesome - and even cheaper - package! I think you just have to do what's right for you and FH. Travel Tom swore we'd be safe - we were staying at the Excellence Riviera Cancun - but it wasn't worth the stress.

I actually heard on the news that the goverment was trying to deter students from visting Mexico. You might want to look into it check out
'Edited to add please read this article it is very interesting. I do believe these are regular Americans who were victims not criminals.'
I believe everyone can make their own personal choice whether or not they should travel to that country as the warning states it's only until April. However I personally feel it would be safer for us to follow what the US is telling us in regards to sticking to tourist areas.

Re: Mexico Honeymoon
I didnt change my honeymoon. What ppl fail to realize there is crime in EVERY country and you dont necessarily know about it because they dont want to scare away tourist which equal money.... Unless you go by the border looking for trouble theres not a problem.

Re: Mexico Honeymoon
I dont want to start an arguement but i dont think that mexico is safe right now. I understand that there is crime in every country but mexico is reporting a rapid increase in crime. And it is mainly by the border however it is spreding into the cities. I want to book mexico too but im honestly very nervous as to what the conditions will be like in july if crime continues to increase at this rate. I dont ever remember the u.s. issuing a warning not to visit any other country on spring break other than mexico this year. Its scary.

Re: Mexico Honeymoon
a lot of places are unsafe...you never really know when you're traveling, just like places in NY aren't that safe either, but avoiding those public areas will prevent you from being involved. I was in Aruba few years ago when that girl was missing--you never know. If you stay at resort and not go into towns, you won't be harmed.
I think some ppl overreact also

Re: Mexico Honeymoon
FH and I booked Mexico...before we heard about all this crime going on. We are not worried though. We don't really plan on doing much off of the resort. I am sure it will be safe if you are in a high tourist area and you act smart. However, if you are worried, you should go somewhere else. No use stressing over something that you are supposed to be excited about. Good luck!

Re: Mexico Honeymoon
I posted this on another mexico related thread but I called the resort (Excellence PM) and spoke to one of the reps who answers the phones over there. He was very candid with me and told me that the area is totally fine. He lives 5 mins from the resort with his family and he said he's never had a problem and there have not been an incidents of crime in that area. It's about 5 hours away from where the crime and what not is going on. Obviously this is no guarantee of anything but it made me feel better to talk to someone from the area who knows whats going on. Sometimes on the news they make things look worse then they are.

Thanks for posting this. I am staying at EPM too. I am glad to hear that things are okay in that area. I kind of figured it was safe.

Good to hear. I'm staying there also and agree it gets hyped up quickly--no offense to posters, but the more ppl post it sounds worse and worse ya know? (I'm not trying to say it's not a serious matter, it is I get it lol)
