FH & I are looking to stay over 1 night in Miami after our cruise... I stayed in SoBe once a few years ago, but the place was a dump and I would def never return there...
On that note, can you guys recommend any nice, but affordable places to stay? Its just 1 night so we dont need to go crazy.

i stayed at the stand ocean drive in south beach and really liked it ... it was built a few years ago and it is very modernish.

Loews Miami Beach is nice. http://www.loewshotels.com/en/Hotels/Miami-Beach-Hotel/Overview.aspx. Definitely my fave in the area.

Definitely try whitelaw hotel....its on collins ave. the rooms are gorgeous!

LOWES!!!! I loved it there!! My girlfriends actually stayed there over the weekend for on of their bachelorette parties (i couldnt go :( ) But it is gorg!!!

We usually stay at the Newport beachside resort and its beautiful and def perfect for one night. Its on collins ave in north miami I think, like 15 mins away from south beach by car

For one night? Do the Avalon. . .it's great for a one or two night stay. The rooms are not huge, but you're not moving in, and it is a classic hotel and i the heart of everything (the cool strip) . . . . . In case you need a location, it's next to the hotel where the guy gets chainsawed in the tub in Scarface . . . . when Al runs out to the car, you'll see it to the left. Hahaha. We've stayed at the National Hotel located next to Lowes, the hotel is Gorgeous! I suggest staying there!
