I really dislike this man. He lies and bends the truth, slices his filming, misrepresents and basically is a fraud selling his point of view on the world by creating a convincing lie called a movie.
Do we all have to agree it's true? Truth (one would hope) is black and white. There should be no 'point of view' in my opinion..... BUT
Is this just Art? I believe so and that being said, art is in the eye of the beholder. Therefore *I* think he takes half truths and exaggerations and puts them together out of context to prove a point. Whether that point is valid or not isn't my rub, it's how he got there that bothers me. So, I don't like his art. I find it manipulative and ugly.
If it's not entirely true or anyway 'created' can it be a documentary? ..... to each his own on this one, but I think it can't be..... Which is why I think of it as Art. The way I think of the Passion of the Christ as Art.
Do I have a right to say I dislike his art? Sure do! Just like you guys can disagree with me.
Gotta love the right to freely express your opinions.
s to all.
I also find myself a bit apprehensive of this man touching 9/11. I can't explain why it angers me but it does. Seems like a scapegoat. JMO

Sounds like someone else I know- George W. Bush- how we got into Iraq- half truths and information taken out of context.
Good thing Moore isn't the President.

For all who thought Bowling for Columbine was true.. here's a site for you.
It wasnt true and he did really tricky things to take statements out of context and twist around views to make it seem real or true.
You can't really lie about a figure. I find it amazing that most Canadian people said they leave doors unlocked. If I am to take the information that you link provides, and believe it, doesn't that make me as bad as if I believed everything Moore says?
I am not a republican, I am not a democrat. I am someone who wants to see someone in office who has a clue. I liked when Regan was president.(granted I was young) I had a great job when Clinton was in office. But for Bush, all it's been is a crap economy, and terrorism threats. (I realize the terrorism stuff isn't directly his fault)
Let me ask you 2 things, total opinion only, I'm not looking for an argument.
1. Are you a republican, or more centrally a George Bush fan?
2. Do you think the media reports as many good stories, as they do bad ones?

I will see it. I think he does use editing to make his point, which is unfair, but he brings up issues that, to me, are interesting and that I want to explore more.

Sure, everyone does that.
A nice example is the Anti-Kerry ad, where he says no to what 10 GI bills? The actual truth is, he said no to 1. There were 10 items on that 1 bill. He said no because he didn't like the way the funds were being appropriated.
But Bush croanies would like to make you think he said no to 10 seperate bills. Little creative editing there, eh?

That is the BEST website I've ever seen... Makes me wish I wrote it myself...

Mr. Hostility - BLESS YOU for posting that URL - I have been laughing my tushy off for awhile since reading it.
My favorite part is the bit about 'Kitten Sodomy.' (It's a parody of the Bush Campaign ad that accuses Kerry of voting against provisions for soldiers, and says 'John Kerry voted against protection for kittens being unilaterally sodomized by genetically altered billy-goats' or something like that)

Re: Michael Moore's new form of so-called 'Art'
Documentarys always bear the narrative intention of the filmaker - they can't be completely objective.
I personally love Michael Moore's work - I thought Roger and Me was brilliant. . . but regardless of where you stand - what is at issue is whether or not this documentary will even get to the theatres. Disney bought the distribution rights and now is refusing to put it in theatres - the Weinstein brothers and a few other distributors are in talks to buy it. . .
I think it should be in the theatres because the best thing to come from it is conversation about the issues he raises. I do not share the beliefs of Mel Gibson - but I appreciate all the conversation and debate that surrounded his film, The Passion.
Conversation and constructive debate about a topic is always healthy.

That site about Bowling for Columbine is wrong on at least one acct...the Bush campaign definitely used the Horton issue to get rid of Dukakis. I remember seeing it and talking about it in school when he was running.
Who knows how much of the other stuff is false?

That's my whole point.. Michael Moore played the game (as we say) and got the ratings and press and the world believing him.. without really JUSTIFING any of it. It's scary.
If ANY of what he says was false how can you not wonder how much of the rest of it was really true? Just like others defend him by saying 'well this one part was true'. So what? What about the rest of it? One part true doesnt make the whole thing true.
I don't mean to say he's a horrid man or anything else I've heard out there about him or his work.
I just think what he does shouldnt get presented as a documentary or the 'truth' but more of a fiction dipiction or interpretation. I think he gets more credit than he deserves.
Hence I said 'I dislike' him.

I understood Stef's comment to mean 'who knows what else is false' toward the website you posted, trying to debunk Bowling for Columbine. I also read on that website about the part where the NRA was formed the year the KKK was declared inhumane/illegal. it said (not in so many words) 'Well yes, the DATES are the same, but - but - but....'
PLEASE.

Ever thought of going to work on the Kerry campaign? Because your always off topic, this was not about the details of what Bush did, it was about Michael Moore's movie? Discuss the relevance of what Moore says about Bush if you don;t like him, but your comments are not often backed up. If you believe what you are saying, then enlighten us with some real facts versus your jokes??

Which is about what Bush did you retard.
How was your petty little rant about me on topic? I thought you were ignoring me because I'm not mature enough for you. Keep crapping after my posts, I like it. Gives me something to laugh about.
I'll give you some reading material, even though you won't read it because after all you know everything. Read me

Re: Michael Moore's new form of so-called 'Art'
I picked other. I will see it because I consider myself to be open minded and I like to hear different points of view. Even though I may not agree with them I think it's important to fully listen to the other side.
I for one do not like Michael Moore. I saw Bowling and I took it for what is should be taken for-a documetary based on one side. These are his beliefs, he has enough talent and money to make a movie so he did. Do I believe everything in that movie? No way. But I did find some points interesting and I took from it what I believed to be truth. Even if he was wrong on the numbers of gun homicides the fact is that our country has a lot more gun homicides then a lot of other countries do. I understand we have a higher population but I still don't think the numbers would match up. I also do believe that the media tries to scare you. Remember every form of media is a business and they want to sell you a story. Think back to Y2K and how much the media tried to scare us. It makes me sick.

Insert whatever you want. And you can check back to the last thread if you like with who began the name calling bullsh*t. I called you a retard, because you seem slow. Should I have used something more politically correct, like Mongoloid?

Re: Michael Moore's new form of so-called 'Art'
I say that he is entitled to his opinion, but I cannot stand the man. I will not pay money for anything he ever does. He acts like he has all the answers, and he knows more then the President. He's a jackass who likes to stir up controversy for the sake of controversy.
