I love Michelle, but I think that this is a mistake. The Nationals should decide who goes.

isnt this similar to when Nancy Kerrigan made it even though with her busted knee she coudlnt make it to Nationals????

Ive always loved Michelle Kwan but every Olympics, she gets edged out by some young troll (as Ive been known to call Tara Lipinski )

I hope this is her year...Id hate for her to go out with one more try on the Olympics

Remember when Nancy Kerrigan was added to the roster w/o winning at Nationals (the whole Tanya Harding thing)? It was Michelle Kwan who stepped aside so that Nancy could skate - she won Bronze that year at Nationals and ended up alternating.

Think of this as Karma.

I just hope she does well, something always happens with her....this has got to be her last shot.

Yep, I remember and I thought it was wrong when it happened then.

Understood. But it's not like these girls just walked off the streets, they've long been respected athletes. In Nancy Kerrigan's case, I think it's reasonable to assume that if Tanya Harding hadn't arranged for her to get smacked in the knee she would've won Nationals. Michelle Kwan gracefully stepped aside with no problem - as I remember she offered to give Nancy her spot on the Olympic team. That's not something a lot of 12 year olds would do. I've always had a lot of respect for Michelle since then.

And like I said, I think of this as Karma. Michelle did it for Nancy, so Emily's going to do it for Michelle.

There are a couple of differences to me.

1. Kwan was 13 when the Kerrigan/ Harding incident occured. Waiting 4 yrs to compete at that age is different then when you are 18. Heck, she wouldn't even be able to compete at 13 under the new Olympic rules.

2. Kwan has only competed once under the new judging system which is a huge disadvantage.

3.With Kerrigan at least they could use her season record to support their decision, but Kwan has not competed once this year.

I guess, I just don't think she has what it takes anymore. She is a beautiful skater and I wish her well, but I don't expect to see her coming home with the Gold medal she so badly wants.

I am sort of torn on this. I agreed that Nancy Kerrigan should have been on the Olympic team.

She earned it throughout the season & was olnly unable to compete b/c she was attacked.

She had to show that she had recovered & was skatignat the level she was earlier in teh season.

In this case, Michelle Kwan has barely skated at all this season & was simply appointed on reputation.

However, for the system as a whole, I understand why they have the exception--they want to put together the best team to represent the country.

The team that gets to compete in the Worlds is determined soley by the nationals ( I am pretty certain)

Some people say it is karma, b/c Sarah Hughes beat Michelle Kwan last Olympics & now Michelle is kicking her little sister off the team

That's hilarious.

I was unaware that Michelle hasn't competed all season. That's kind of cheap - unless it was due to injury or something.

::shrug:: I like Michelle Kwan, and this doesn't bother me so much. But I completely understand why it bothers you girls.

I believe it was due to the same injury that kept her from the Nationals.
But I am not sure how many she was scheduled to compete in to begin with.
