I haven't heard any bad things about it - i live there now. Are you looking in Selden or Centereach?

They are not the best but they are better than some other school districts in the area. I think Longwood school district is worse.

Sachem is a little bit better but watch out b/c i think the taxes or school taxes are going up 18%.

I live in Centereach and I love it! Dont know too much about the schools but from what I understand they are basically good schools! My cousins go there and have no complaints!

There are a TON of houses in my neighborhood that have been going on and off the market (most sell within a month). What are you looking for, I can keep my eye out!

I went to Middle Country SD (Centereach HS) and loved it. I really think, with all school districts, a school is what you make of it. When I was in HS (many moons ago) we had a ton of advanced courses, college courses, computer classes and such and we were much more advanced than my cousins who were in Seaford school district and Sachem, both excellent districts.

DH and I are both products of Middle Country SD and we have no complaints. We both went to Centereach High School but I do hear there is a difference in the high schools from friends who are teachers and guidance counselors in the district. I hear that Newfield is not as good, it has a higher drop out rate, more absenteeism, and higher detention/suspension rate.

ETA: DH and I grew up in Centereach and are now considering buying a home in Lake Ronkonkoma where the kids also go to Middle Country SD.

Check out Sound Beach and Rocky Point... they are both in a really decent school district, and the prices of the houses are really affordable right now, as are the taxes! Some of the houses can be junky... but dont give up because there are some really nice houses in there... (we just found one! ) Good luck!!

I grew up in Centereach and attended Centereach HS - it was good. My FH and I are in the process of buying a house in Centereach. Very LOW taxes!

I currently live in Selden and teach at Newfield High School.

As far as it being a bad school - I think someone might say that if they came from a Rocky Point or Shoreham type small district. We are actually pretty 'corny' and fairly small - graduating classes of 380- 420's. I would have ABSOLUTELY no problem sending my kids there. The area is predominantly lower-middle class but there are some REALLY nice developments in both Selden and Centereach. FM me if you want more specifics!!
