Might change my dress into a sweetheart neckline...

apparently it's 'doable', but the seamstress is concerned that the dress won't be 'fitted' enough with a sweetheart neckline to stay up on its own. She say we may need to add straps. She said we'll talk about it at my first fitting.

Does anyone know why this would be the case? Did anyone with a sweetheart neckline have issues with the dress staying up? I just don't understand why it would be so different from how the dress is now...

Let them show you first how they are going to do it. My SIL had the same neckline that you have now and then used a piece of thread to pull it down in the middle but the thread was still visable... she didnt say anythign but I thought it was kinda weird

I don't know about that, but I don't think you should change your dress...I would be totally nervous about doing that. Plus, your dress is so pretty now and it flatters you. That's JMO

I had a sweetheart and it stayed up fine. I had a bra on underneath and the whoel thing was very fitted, I don't think it could possibly have fallen down!. I would think a sweetheart would be a tighter fit but mine was originally a sweetheart, not sure if it's difefrent if they alter it.

I don't understand why changing it into a sweatheart neckline would have any bearing on how the dress is held up. The dress should be fitted on your waist to prevent it from falling down.

I agree- although sweetheart necks are gorgeous-- your dress is beautiful on it's own! If it aint broke-- don't fix it! lol I love it the way it is Sarah but if you want to-- then go for it.

It's possible that the main 'support' is the top of the bodice...my dress had a very straight top and I noticed much of the shaping and support was in the top 'edge' if that makes sense. Cutting into it might compromise the strength of the dress' ability to stay up since it wasn't designed that way...I'm not a seamstress, but that's my guess. I agree with everyone else, it looks great the way it is!
