Migraine Sufferers?
Anyway living in this hell?? Imitrex is the only thing that actually helps but I am still looking for a good migraine/pain/headache specialist (I live in Northport) - anyone?

Re: Migraine Sufferers?
I suffer terribly from Migraines....I too take imitrex, by injection when it's really bad and the tablets if I catch it early enough....
I also take 'Esgic Plus' which is typically taken for tension headaches, but if I take it along with the imitrex..it REALLY helps!

Re: Migraine Sufferers?
Do a search. We have talked about this a lot. I have suffered from it for a long time now. Having up to 7 or more a month. SO severe I throw up and was missing work. I see a neurologist who I love. FM for more info (he is in nassau) and I now take Topamax (which is an anti seizure med) everyday. It took awhile to get the dose right but now I have 1 or no migraines a month and it is controallable with Zomig. I know it sounds like a scary treatment but it works!!!

Re: Migraine Sufferers?
With Isabel last week, I had an onslaught. Once I was finally diagnosed with Cluster Migraines a few years ago...I can monitor them easier. I tried Zomig and that didn't work...Relpax works well for me. But I've been out of sorts since the Migraine last Thursday. I feel so weird - it's hard to explain.I try to pick up on the aura's...definetly nausea and vomitting are clear indicators. I was doing well for a while...then **** Isabel.
I'm so sorry you're going through this too...
What makes it worse for me at times is the my FH doesn't even get headaches so it's hard for him to understand migraine's. The longest I've gone with one is 3 weeks. A 3 week migraine - made me want to bang my head against a brick wall to relieve the pain! Thankfully I was diagnosed with that one...

Re: Migraine Sufferers?
I haven't had a migraine for about a year (thankfully) until this past Tuesday - I wound up leaving work at 10:30 because I couldn't function. I had a prescription when I first started getting them (about 6-7 years ago) but after it ran out I never bothered getting another one because the migraines came less frequently. Excedrin Migraine has worked for me in the past but nothing except total darkness and silence was working on Tuesday.

Re: Migraine Sufferers?
I used to get at least one a week. I luckily do not vomit but yes nausea. Got one Monday night and am still feeling the effects and had run of out my Imitrex. My FI doesn't get headaches either and if he's taken an aspirin in the past year, it's woudl be a lot. As much as he cannot comprehend AT ALL, he makes me go to bed and makes sure the dogs don't bark! I've been getting headaches since I was in high school - going on 20 years now but not until I was in my mid 20's did they become so severe that I would miss work, etc. I hate the 'migraine hangover' that follows too!!

Re: Migraine Sufferers?
I get migraines, too. Thankfully I only really get them at 'hormonal' times, either at ovulation, or just before, during or just after AF. I get terrible nausea, but no vomiting. I don't take any prescriptions for them. I take Advil and a cup of black tea. I never have anything with caffiene in it at any other time, so it's almost like a medicine for me. The caffeine plus the Advil seems to do the trick most of the time, but every now and then I get a real doozy and it doesn't help. Sometimes just laying down and napping works, and I 'sleep them off.'I have had some true auras, where I see flashing lights and lose my peripheral vision, or get blind spots before the headache, but strangely the headaches after the aura aren't very bad.
I think I get other auras, too, before a migraine, like weakness and fatigue. I walk around wondering why I'm so exhausted or weak, and sure enough, by the end of the day I've got a migraine. Sometimes a mood change will be the aura. I'll be angry all day without really knowing why, and whammo, migraine.
I know mine are related to my hormones, because if I skip a month of AF, I have NO migraines that month.
Sometimes skipping a meal will trigger one too, but not often.
They are horrible! The longest one I had lasted two or three days. The shortest has been about two or three hours.
