I just had my second migrane headache. My first was about a year and a half ago...
I'm now wired b/c the medicine has caffeine in it and despite my killer headache I can't sleep.
It's so scary. I just came home from work, I ordered food to pick up. As I went to the basement to tell FH I was going to pick up the food my right hand went numb. Then I got tingles in the fingers of that hand. Then my tongue went numb on the right side... then my right eye was twitching and I saw floaters in that eye. I was trying to talk to FH but my words came out wrong. I was so terrified b/c my mom has strokes and seizures. After all those symptoms subsided I was left with the worst pain in my head, but the Excedrine migrane has left me WIRED, now I can't sleep!!!
I've been sick all week with a bad upper respiratory cold in my sinuses and chest. I was drinking tons of green tea which my mom told me tonight is very bad for migranes and can cause them. I didn't know this. Plus I had like no water at all this week b/c cold water hurt my chest to drink. It's my period week so I'm off the pill this week, but hormone changes... not good. I usually have a cup of coffee every day - I had nothing but green tea since Sunday. I've been sleepless all week and no appetite either from being sick. I cannot wait to rest this whole weekend! I need a break from my suffering body!
What a mess... if I was a horse they'd take me out back and shoot me...

Re: Migrane headaches
Oh my! You sound terrible I get migraines often. Nothing but advil, a dark environment and NO NOISE will help me kick it. Usually when I have them I have trouble sleeping also, which is the worst. Sometimes the room spins and I feel nauseas.. I feel your pain. I do feel concerned however, if you are having numbness on one side of your body I would go see a doctor very soon. I wouldnt mess with that especially if theres a family history. I really would go.
ETA - I just went to the doctor, which i RARELY do for a sinus infection and he gave me Azithromycin. It takes 3 days are youre all good. You should check it out. Also a nasal spray.

Re: Migrane headaches
Ugh! Story of my life! I'm sooooo tired of them. Literally! I find myself just the opposite...I'm sleeping 24/7 because it's the only thing that helps me. My doctor has stopped me from taking all the OTC pills because after a while I get rebound headaches from them. I've been on so many meds for them...they're expensive too and not fun to take. One thing I find it is I get the worst ones around my period. That may be why this one is soooo bad, but definitely, definitely see your doctor. They should send you to a Neurologist just to be safe especially with your family medical history. Run an MRI as a precaution. Try and get some sleep...I also find cold over my eyes and forehead help. I was so tired of wetting a washcloth or keeping a icepack cold and wearing them at work made me real attractive So I found this 'stuff' called I think Head On. It's a tube you just roll it over your forehead. It feels great and keeps it cool for a long time. Much better than those patches they had out at one time. I hope you feel better.

Re: Migrane headaches
Well, I finally fell asleep. FH has me sitting here with a full glass of water and ordered me to drink the whole thing and keep refilling it throughout the day. I get kidney stones too so one would think that I'd be better about keeping myself hydrated. My yoga instructor once told me that dehydration can cause headaches so I'm thinking part of my migrane may have been due to lack of water. I still feel spacey. I couldn't go to my weekend gymnastics teaching job today b/c of it and they didn't call me to tell me that they got my message last night. They are probably so mad! But I don't want to leave the house and last night I didn't have the mindset to call all the other coaches and start asking who would be available to do my class. Oh well, we will see how that turns out... I don't feel well enough to call anyone right now either, and if they are mad I can't deal with that right now. I'm still not feeling good today.
I am going to the Neurologist ASAP. Last time I had a migrane I had the numbness too and the doc did a multitude of tests... brain scan, MRI, visit with an Epilepsy specialist, the whole deal. Everything came out okay, but with my family history I want to be retested when it gets bad like that. The pain and sensitivity to light are bad and I get that too every so often, but when the numbness and disorientation set in including speech problems... then I worry - that's too similar to my mom's symptoms, but my mom never gets a headache, hence why she's diagnosed with Seizures... but she also had strokes...
My body ***** right now!

Re: Migrane headaches
Hey hon! I heard about this last night...so sorry! Green tea, although packed w/ a lot of good nutrients is a no-no for migraine sufferers. That w/ being sick, stress, and hormones will definitely bring it on. The speech problems can occur w/ migraine (I get that too)...means that the left side of your brain is affected...being that you had numbness on the right side of the body it makes sense too (left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and speech and language). Usually migraine will only affect a person on one side. I would definitely get to the doctor...maybe he can perscribe some abortive therapy (being that you don't get them often they will probably not give you preventive therapy). Also, if you are a normal caffiene drinker, be aware that you can actually get a migraine if your body is withdrawing from caffiene. This is straight from the neurologist's mouth as well as from the stuff I've read. Feel better though. Get plenty of rest and water will never hurt. Just relax today if you can. Let me know if you need anything.
