Ok, I think this is very strange but let me know what you think. My MIL and I do get along but she never makes any efforts with my family. One of my good friends (one of BM, a childhood friend of mine who has NO relationship with MIL and only met her at a few wedding related things of mine) recently bought a house in the same down as MIL. I mentioned it to her and she sent my friend an e-mail congratulating her. She never told me she did this, my friend (who felt a little odd since they have NO relationship!) told me. I am sure she was trying to be nice but I found it a little out of line since she has no relationship with my friend and makes no effort w/my fam. I mentioned it to DH, who thought it was odd. I am not going to say anything but for some reason, it really irritated me!

Yeah, I find it a little off too. I am sorry that you are upset. Perhaps she was just trying to be nice?

I guess that's a little weird, but I wouldn't get upset about it. Sometimes people do weird things and you to to rationalize it and that's what's probably irritating you.

I guess. I just think it's odd because my sister had surgery and she never contacted her and my grandmother was in the hospital and she never sent a card or anything. So my friend moves to the neighborhood and she e-mails her. If she is trying to make an effort with people in my life, it seems odd that that would be how! I spoke to DH, and he also thought it was odd. Oh well!

maybe she is trying to make an effort to change - and this one of the many times she will make an effort to be a part of your life - I think it was very nice of her to do that -

Maybe there was something about your friend that your MIL liked. Maybe she felt comfortable with her for some strange reason. Maybe it's b/c she bought a house in the neighborhood and wanted her to feel welcomed. Give MIL the benefit of the doubt.

I was wondering the same thing! A little odd, but nothing I would be mad about.

Re: MIL: is this weird?
When I first got engaged, I sent a mass e-mail to bridesmaids, groomsmen, and parents giving everyone each other's e-mail addresses so they could get in touch for my shower, tuxes, etc.
