MIL VENT

So my MIL is constantly asking me what dress color my mother is wearing, and my mother has not yet picked out her dress being that my wedding is still 14 months away- i told her what it might be, but keep saying, im not sure, when she picks out a color i will let you know, but do not buy a dress until then.

shes already out looking for dresses, and all night last night kept asking what mom was wearing, and that she found a dress ( fh brother is getting married in october, and yesterday she bought her dress, and bought it before my sil's mother had a chance to buy hers and get her color )

im not sure whats so hard to understand about that? and worried that shes going to just buy a dress before my mother deciedes what shes going to wear, i know its her sons wedding, and thats fine, but my mother should be able to pick her dress color first, like hellooo

what do i do?
ughhh, sorry, i needed to vent, its so frustrating!

I'm not sure if there is much you can do - maybe her asking you is b/c she is worried about finding some thing perfect??

My FMIL mentioned to me a while back that the traidtion is the mother of the bride is to get her dress first - not sure how true it is lol but maybe relay that info again to FMIL?

Or maybe talk to your mom - and see what ideas she has for a dress and then tell those to FMIL to give her some kind of answers to help her shut up for a little while lol.

It's annoying when they jump down your throat about things that you don't have much control over.

Re: MIL VENT

my mom and FMIL are wearing whatever they want ... i don't care if they match, i don't care if they don't match ... the only thing is that they can't wear red (since that's what the MOH and BMs are wearing).

if you want to tell her what color to wear, then just keep ignoring her lol ... tell her 'you'll be first to know' and that's it ... she can keep complaining, but it won't do her any good.

i do know how annoying it is though ... my FMIL is a pain also lol

I personally don't care what my mom or FMIL wears, just as long as it's not white or ivory! LOL.

My mom already told me that she hates me because I am most likely having the BMs wear black and I took that option away from her and she doesn't look good in green or yellow lol. I said it's not my problem!

Re: MIL VENT

its just driving me crazy, i know my mother doesnt want them to match, and its like, you have plenty of time to get a dress for my wedding, cant you lay off for a few months until my mother makes her decision? she does still have over a year, i mean, really is it a big deal?

then my mom tells me shes found a black dress she loves, ( the weddings going to be pink and gold, the girls are wearing pink) and that its black, but she still wants to keep looking
so i tell my fmil that she might wear black but shes not sure yet
and i get this ' oh black, really, i went to look for dresses yesterday and they said the mother of the bride neevrrrr wears black and that its terrible bad luck for a wedding'
and im like okay, when she deciedes i promise ill let oyu know

its just like, how many times a day can you ask me the same question, i dont have an answer for you yettt

its just frustrating!

Re: MIL VENT

sounds like you FMIL is too into the whole 'tradition' thing of the wedding. I honestly have never even heard of any of this until you posted this (like the MOB buying her dress first, and that black is a bad omen). It just doesn't make much sense to me. I can understand how frustrating it is, especially since you have so much time for either one of them to look for a dress.

Hell I know my mom is going to wait til the last possible minute to get a dress because she is like a crazy 'get in shape/loss weight' mode that for her to get a dress now would be silly b/c it wouldn't fit her.

I didnt know it was a thing with FMIL waiting until the MOB buys their dress. I thought the dresses was purchased on either side whenever

Re: MIL VENT

Since FMIL is so into the tradition (I have heard about MOB traditionally being the one to choose her gown first, as well as black supposedly being inappropriate for MOB) I would talk to my mom and say listen, FMIL is on my back, either pick a dress soon or consider it a personal favor to me to allow her to choose a dress cause I can't be bothered with this kind of BS, it's annoying.

Not Mom's fault, but she can help mitigate the aggravation for you.

i would just tell your MIL that she will be the first to know what your mom is wearing. Tell her that your mom has been so caught up with wedding planning that she hasn't had time to decide. And then kind of ignore MIL for a while.
