mildy distressed about my gown

mildy distressed about my gown

So I went to visit my dress for the first time on Friday since it's come into the store.... and it fits perfectly (thank god) except for one small detail....

I am 5'10'. When I tried the dress on with the shoes they had in the shop, it was slightly too short in the front. The heels they had were a little higher than 3' (they LOOKED really low though) but when I walked you could see the whole tops of my feet. The women in the shop and my FSIL assured me that it's fine, that with a 2' heel it will be perfect (the dress WITHOUT shoes on touches the floor). I am just really bummed because I wanted to be able to wear platform, crazy sexy shoes and now I am limited in what I buy.

What irks me is that when I ordered the gown, the bridal consultant NEVER suggested that I order extra length. It was like she never even thought about it. When I went this past Friday I had a different consultant who was surprised that the other one hadn't ordered me the extra length.

Now, I am not sure what to do. Should I just suck it up and find shoes with a low heel, or should I call the store and complain? Would they even be able to get a new gown in on time? I just don't want to stress about it but I am becoming more and more upset by this. FH says not to worry about it.

If you're not happy, I would see about discussing your options with a different consultant. Depending on your dress, it may be possible to order a new one with the extra length. When did you order the one that just came in?

Bottom line is that the store should do whatever it takes to make you happy. And if ordering a new dress for you with the extra length will do it, then I would at least campaign for it. Obviously they will charge you extra for the extra length but they shouldn't charge you any more than that.

Definitely give it a go, and good luck!

I would probably just wear the smaller heel. 2 inches is not bad. How tall is your FH?

I am 5'11'' and hardly anyone even mentioned extra lenght to me. I mentioned it myself everytime because most of tehe samples barely touched the floor on me. I did have to pay about 350 extra for a few inches of lenght.

As long as you can wear a two inch heel I would let it go. If it really bothers you a lot try talking to them but I doubt they will be able to do much.

A lot of places may not do that because they had to pay to order the dress and if you did not request lenght then it really is not their fault. This happened to my cousin. People's opinions vary on exactly how long the dress should be. Still, I agree you should talk to them and see if there is something they can do.

i personally dont think it matters how high the heel is on your shoes, but i also wore sparkled flipflops, but that is what i love....

you dont need a huge heel but.....

if thats what you want maybe call the shop to see if anything can be done....at least get some money back or something else if its too late to get another dress

plus 'crazy sexy shoe's can mean a lot of different things maybe go more funky and unique shoes over high heels

Part of me feels like it's my fault, part of me thinks they were a little negligent, but in the end I guess it's not a big deal.

FH is just under 6'4' so it's not like I needed to be a certain height, but the more I think about it, my dad is only 5'11' and I wouldn't want to tower over HIM when we dance. I just have seen SO many pairs of shoes that I love that are like 3-4' heels and I won't be able to wear 'em now!!

Maybe I'll just let it go.

I would keep the gown and just look for shoes with a lower heel...but if it really bothers you then call the bridal shop and see if they can order the gown with extra lenght. I am not sure how you bill of sale reads but mine has a little paragraph that pretty much states once I sign it I agree to the style and size of the gown listed of the bill of sale.

i would try it on with smaller heels and see how it looks from there..if u like it then get smaller shoes ..if u r dead set on 3 inch heels maybe they can do soomething for u ..like adding extral lenght or something..i hope it works out for u

That's funny, I'm actually having the same exact issue... except my dress almost seemed too shot with NO shoes on!

I'm just going to end up getting flats or like a 1 ' heel.

Try it with the shorter heels, it might be more comfortable for you anyway...

Re: mildy distressed about my gown

2 inches isnt really that short. and they have some really nice shoes with that heel size.. plus it will probably be your cheapest option.. if they have to order my fabric for your dress, its going to cost more, so I would just go with the shoes

Question: does it say on your receipt, women over 5'8 should order extra length? where they entered your height?

My BM dress from Bridal reflections says that and I'm 5'9 so they suggested extra lenght

That surprising that they didn't even MENTION it....It's your call - if you call try to speak with someone important or the woman who wrote up your receipt- or just forget about it if you don't want to get stressed out and wear lower shoes

btw your dress is beautiful!

Re: mildy distressed about my gown

This totally happened to me! I'm 5'9 and I bought my 3' shoes thinking they would work and since they were open toe it was too noticable and bothered me too much. My dress came in 3 months before the wedding so I didnt even think to complain because I was not offered the longer length either. I just went back to the place in Babylon where I bought my shoes and since she remembered me she let me exchange them and I got 2' heels. It made such a difference!! I really felt better and the new shoes were more comfortable anyway. Since your wedding isnt until September I say go for it and try to get longer length added. I wish I had enough time for me but it worked out either way for me. Good Luck!!

awww...sorry this happened kathleen!!!

if you are really not happy and have your heart set on heels i would DEF say something...they should not expect you to be wearing small heels...and your dress would def come to you in time...only took few months in the first place

BUT...maybe look for 2 inch heels...see if you like anything.....i lovee wearing my heels...but on wedding day I am going for comfort .your on your feel all day long , dancing and everything
may not be a horrible option

I would go with shorter shoes, rather then be stressed the new dress won't come in on time. I am sure you can find gorgeous smaller shoes.
