Mini-moon then a honeymoon next year???

SOOOO planning a honeymoon has been the most difficult thing FH and I have ever done... everytime I think we're set on something we come up with some other idea and start back at square one.... Our biggest issue is my severe lack of vacation time and with having 100 other weddings (OK so 7) I am going to need to take other days off during the year and 10 days definitely doesn't go that far...

Should we just do a week long mini-moon so I'll only need 5 days off and then next year when everyone and their mother is already married and I don't need to take a ton of time off we can take our actual honeymoon for an extended period of time? Or do you think that takes something away from it?

Or should I just **** it up and take some extra time off 'no-pay'???

i think a week long honeymoon is plenty of time... i wouldn't consider it a minimoon (i think these are more weekends or just a few days). if you left the sunday after the wedding and came back the sunday after that, you could just take monday off if you wanted to and just have to take one day without pay if needed. maybe you could do a week this year for your honeymoon and then a week or more next year for your one year anniversary

The biggest issue would be the places we wanted to go on our honeymoon have REALLY long flights... we're thinking either Fiji or South Africa and to go either of those places everyone keeps telling us we need more than a week... which I guess makes sense...

I prefer it after the wedding. It's just another vacation a year later and honestly there may be just as many things going on. If you can try to get the extra days even if its unpaid...just go for it.

I am taking a minimoon right after.
Tues-Fri (we get married on a Sun).
I wanted to do SOMETHING so we are going to Napa.
We will got to Italy in Sept or 2011.
This has more to do with FH's work schedule.

But take that week to go somewhere and relax!!!

what if you did like a week in aruba or one of the islands?
or with a week you could pick like 1 country in europe and go there
or honestly you could do hawaii, it just won't be a super long trip

and what if you just took like 1 day with no pay?

FH and I are in the middle of planning our South African honeymoon and I think you'll need more than a week -- depending on what you want to do. You lose one day just flying there.

FH and I are planning to go for 2 1/2 weeks.

FH wont get paid for time off (he's in construction...so no money if you dont work)...but I'm figuring we can use some of the wedding money (if we have to) to make up for him not making any money for two weeks.

I figure I get 10 vacation days... I'm using 1 for Ireland. I wanted to take one the Friday before my shower since my Grandma will be here... I wanted to take the 2 days off before the wedding and IDEALLY as much time after as possible... but we have a wedding in MD (friday night), stupid FBIL's wedding in DC and we have to go down the day before (friday) and then a wedding in Jersey (fri night)... I'm already over at this point... maybe I'll just start calling in sick!! LOL!!!!

But I was thinking of doing a 5-7 days at one of the Sandal's Resorts and then in the spring do our South Africa or Fiji trip...

I definitely want to go away right after I just hate the friggin guilt trip I'm already getting from my boss about the time I want to request off.

so 2 for weddings..
1/2 for jersey
1 for ireland
2 before the wedding
can you take a 1/2 day for your grandma?

maybe even a 1/2 day for fbil?

because that would then 6 days..

so if you left sunday after your wedding, and came back the following sunday you would need to take 1 unpaid day, but you would have 8 days away..

and i think that's plenty for sandals..

then next year you could do fiji
and the year after south africa..

i mean if you have 8 days..what is it, an over night flight? or can you do it in the same day?

which one is closer?

if he really doesn't want to, figure you lose a day each way for flying, but it would still leave you with mon-sat where ever you decided to go.

and um you obviously need to save a few days for england next year

FH thought I was crazy, too!! But he's on board now. If you decide to go, let me know your plans. I'm seriously having the hardest time deciding what to do and see. I thought I had my whole trip planned...but I keep changing my mind on where to go and stay!!

OMG!!! I know there are so many things to choose from!!! I work with a guy whose wife is from South Africa and he was giving me all of these recommendations and I think I would need a month to do it all!!! LOL! But I would definitely want to do a photo safari and stay on a game reserve like the Sabi Sabi Lodges for a few days and go to the winelands... and the beaches are beautiful too... at this rate it'll be the day before our wedding and we'll still have no idea where we're going...
