FH is off next week and we were thinking about taking a drive out to Montauk or somewhere on the east end for the night and a nice lobster dinner. Any recommendations?
DH and I went to Block Island for two nights and it was great! You can take the ferry from Orient Point, but you need a reservation for hotels/B&B. It was pretty crowded and we went mon-wed. We had seafood for two lunches and two dinners and it was all great. Just note that the hotels there are old.

Daunte's Albatross in Montauk. DH and I stayed there in the fall and it was soo quaint and sweet. Not 5 star but it did the trick!!! The staff was amazing and it was the perfect mini-vaca we needed.
I went there on my spontaneous honeymoon and stayed at a beachfront cottage at the Panoramic View. It was truly more amazing than any island accommodation could provide....two stories, 2 Br, Bath, Fireplace, Deck, Brick Patio, Full Kitchen...all a stone's throw from the ocean. There are only 3 of them and they were pricey, but well worth the luxury that most of Montauk won't offer you. Dinner at the Harvest was fantastic too. Have fun.

MONTAUK IS MY FAVORITE PLACE
If you plan on staying overnight, get a room at the montauk manor...its an old mansion and BEAUTIFUL...also go down to Gosmans dock for shopping and GREAT food!!!!

ITA! Montauk Manor is beautiful!! Perfect for an overnight stay! We went last october.
I'm going to montauk on sunday and staying at the Beachcomber.
