Minimums. What would you do? *update*

Minimums. What would you do? *update*

So we've guaranteed 100 people for the room we are currently in, which isn't my favorite room in the place. My favorite room has a minimum of 150. Our guest list is currently at about 170, but we are on a Thursday and have a lot of OOT folks. There's also a lot of people on our b-list.

Our venue says that if 3 months before the wedding, no one has booked my favorite room, they would switch us with no increase in the minimum.

What would you do? Wait it out or just switch now?

Update: Well, we decided to add our B-list in which pretty much doubles our guest list. Ack! So as soon as we get a call back from our BM we will upgrade to the bigger room. I'm so excited!!!!!

Thanks girls!!!!

I think honestly it's a hard call; especially being so far from your date and before you've gotten any rsvp's (or probably sent your invites out). Being that the wedding is on a Thursday you might get people that can't make it; either OOT'ers or local people. I personally would count in my head being responsible for all 150 people (including adding those from your B-list) then and be ok with the idea of either being under minimum or try to get extra's thrown in if you're under minimum.

Ugh, thats tough. On a Thur. night there is a very good chance that the other room won't get booked, right? You should have the room you want though. Can your budget handle the switch? If so I'd say just go for it. Or would the hall be willing to give you a heads up before they book the other room, and you could then decide to switch (or not) at that point? I'm not voting because I'm clearly all over the place :-P

You can on average for a Friday or Saturday night expect about 30% NO RSVP, on a Thursday night, I'm going to guess that that rate will go up. Even with a B list, Thursday nights are VERY difficult for people to make. I don't know if I would feel comfortable switching and then likely paying for a lot of plates that aren't filled. I don't know if it's worth it for you.... I definitely would rather save the money and put it either towards the honeymoon, or a house....

EDIT: Your wedding is also in the middle of the school year... any teachers and ANY one with children will have a very difficult time making it.

I would wait and see. Personally I agree with the girls who said that G-D forbid some people say no, you don't want to be left paying for all those plates. It is a Thursday and many people may not be able to attend due to work, school, etc. Maybe you can try to negotiate the minimum of people?

well, just decide if you want to pay for 150 regardless of how many people are there. If that is like, TOTALLY in your budget, and you would be comfortable paying at least that, then I would switch it now.

The upside to that is you know that there is a number that NO MATTER WHAT, you will have to put at least that for the reception hall. With something like that so concrete, it makes thinking about money for other things easier. Gives more of a boundary, you know?

You said they would be willing to change it 3 months before with no increase. Does the same deal still stand if you change it now? No increase?

Now I am a litt bias because i have changed my room simply because i didnt like the room we were originally in. I wanted the larger room and i switched with no regurad to guestlist or price. If your budget can handle paying for 150 then go for it. Also if you are ok with paying for 150 people and possibly not having 150 showing up and having to settle for upgrades or taking food home then go for it.

I may wait , Thursdays are not as popular they may not book it. or i would see if you could negotiate the minimum for the big room for 120.

Re: Minimums. What would you do?

I'd say wait 'cause ur wedding is gonna be on a Thu, most likely people prefer weekends, so if u wait u can use the room u like without paying extra. But if u switch now, u're gonna have to guarantee 150 which means pay more, and on top of that u're gonna have to increase the # of guests to at least 200 ppl 'cause remember, it's gonna be on a Thu so a lot of people might not be able to come. I'm in the same position, I'm using the Saturnia room, but I'm in luv with the other rooms so I'm just gonna wait and see. If not, I'm still happy with the room we'll using.

Personally I would wait. I love the normady room but there nothing wrong with the santuria room. I should have booked the mormady but now that I look at it I'd rather have the smaller min and not have to pay for the larger min and not having the people to cover

Re: Minimums. What would you do?

if it was me, id change it now

im a brat when it comes to wedding stuff and want things a certain way

I'd probably take the risk...just make sure you're willing to swallow a few thousand, if you end up having to pay for 50 guests that don't show

i voted to change it now

imagine how you will feel 3 months from now if someone books the room and you lost out

BUT id try to negotiate like crazy before i changed it

can you add on something to the wedding in exchange for lowering the minimum?

Re: Minimums. What would you do?

I say wait it out. We had people who swore up and down for 2 years they wouldnt miss our wedding and they RSVPed no. I had a few no shows day of and it stinks to pay for people that arent there...imagine if you are 25 under min.
