Minister/Rabbi question

Minister/Rabbi question

Hey girls,

I am Episcopal and FH is Jewish, the minister I grew up with won't perform the ceremony (for a few different reasons) and I don't want to have just a rabbi do it that we don't know. For that matter, I don't want anyone performing the ceremony that we don't know...has anyone had a friend or family member perform the ceremony?? If so, how did this work, where did they go to get licensed?

Any input would be much appreciated!!!

TIA

Re: Minister/Rabbi question

Don't know how legit this is, but you can check out this link:

www.thechurchofnewlife.org

and have one of your friends ordained. For more info, check out the NY State Dept. website: http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/married.htm

According to NYS, the person who performed the ceremony must be registered with the state--not sure how to do this.

Just to be on the safe side and to make sure everything is legal, you could hire a minister/rabbi who does interfatih ceremonies and see if it would be OK with them if your friend could preside over part of the ceremony, i.e., exchange of vows & rings.

Hope this helps.
