Miss vs. Ms.

Miss vs. Ms.

Which is appropriate for which situation?

I feel like 'Miss' is for someone young (like under 18).
Is 'Ms.' appropriate to use for every female over the age of 18 and not married? Or is that reserved for divorcees?

I've had stuff addressed to me both ways so I'm confused

I've also seen people be insulted if they are addressed as 'Ms.'

You are correct.

Miss = 18 or younger

Ms. = over 18 and not married (including those who are divorced)

Mrs. = married women and also widows.

THANK YOU! That's exactly what I thought.
I've received invites address to me as 'Miss' and felt that was a bit weird. (But then again some of my relative might still think f me as 3 years old)

i put miss for all my friends who are in their twenties and not married. I wasn't sure of the proper way to do it, but i feel like Ms. is for women a bit older. JMO
