Missing Moms that day?

Missing Moms that day?

Is there anyone else out there that is trying to do something special to remember their Mom? I am throwing myself a pity party over here being jealous of my sister who had my mother there on her wedding day. Just to rant some more .....I get a knife to the heart everytime a vendor mentions the Mother of the Bride. I know they don't know she passed away and I feel bad but it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

My dad passed away so I can totally relate....maybe the next time you go to a new vendor, mention right off the bat that your mom won't be there so they won't say it???

I lost my Mom when I was a baby and my Grandmother who helped raise me passed a year and a half ago. Totally feeling the loss of my Mom and my Grams
We know that we don't expect people to know aboutour situation but it doesn't make it any less painful EACH and everytime the Mom of the Bride comes up. You're allowed to throw yourslf a pity party. Just make sure you give yourself the chance to come back up from this stronger and enjoy the happy times, too
I totally feel your pain, hang in there

I am in the same situation as you. My mom passed away 10 years ago (will be 10 yrs in June). I am going to have a memory candle at my RH for her. I also have a great poem that I am putting on the back of our programs in memory of her. I am also having her favorite flower as our decorations in church and I am buying flowers to put on the altar at church. I think that is it, but not sure. HTH I can send you the poem if you would like. Just FM me.

Reading this thread totally made me tear up .. I didnt loose my mom but I lost my grandmother in Sept.. who was me & my moms best friend.. Its been so hard on the two of us.. I try not to think about it.. but it hurts so much when I think about the flowers ( me wanting to get her, her corsage & all ), wanting to see her see me get married. I have alot of private pity parties... you just have to remember she is there.. along side of you each and every moment of your wedding planning. Be strong and hang in there...

i don't know the feeling of losing mom, but i do know the feeling of losing dad (17 years yesterday) - everytime i met with a dj, they would always ask about the father-daughter dance and when i met with the church, they asked about our parents, etc.

it's hard, but just do something to remember her - my brother had a dedication to my father at his wedding - just don't make yourself miserable that day, you want to be happy.

my mom passed 3 years ago and it is the hardest thing...i always go to pick up the phone to call and ask her what she thinks about something and remember she is not going to answer. you are definitely allowed to have a pity party! i know that she is around in spirit and along with me every step of the way, planning this wedding.

I lost my Dad 3 years ago and so I can totally relate...I hate that I am jealous but all my sisters had him to walk them down the aisle and I won't - no father daughter dance either. It's really hard. But what you could do is have a picture charm on your bouquet that day with you Mom's pic. I am going to do that with my Dad. I'm also going to have a picture of him and tribute in the back of my ceremony program and will have some pics of him with me in frames at the reception. I wanted things to be more subtle - nothing too over the top because I don't want to be a crying mess on the big day. Good luck with everything and know that there are others feeling similar thoughts as you out there. hang in there.

i know how you feel. my mom died when i was a kid and i don't know what to do other than to memorialize her in the programs. i don't want to depress my guests, but i want to do a candle or something. you're not alone!!

I can't say I know exactly what you are going through. But my FI mother passed about 14 years ago. He never talks of her and I don't want to pry. although I do want to do something to remember her on the day of our wedding. Anytime it is brought up FI gives me no answers. I was thinking of using her favorite flower as his and his BM's boutonaire, and something different for all the other gus. It is incredibly difficult for all who have lost someone close. Just remeber you are not alone.

All I can say is although your day might not be what you imagined without your mother, she will be there in your spirit and in your heart.

Re: Missing Moms that day?

It's not easy. I lost my mom in 2004.
On my wedding day, I had a memorial candle lit in her memory, and I wore her wedding band on my right hand. I still wear it. My mom's pic was also on my bo-k in a beautiful jeweled frame.
Instead of the toss away bo-k, I asked the florist to make up a mini version of my bo-k that I placed on her grave the day after.

The hardest part was not having her there as I shopped for my dress and did all the rest of my planning. I did feel though, as if she was watching over me. I know that she will always be a part of me.
