MNF - Desperate Housewives Commercial Controversy
Is it just me or is this being made WAAAAAAAYYYY too big of a deal?Every show on TV lately has sex, violence, and many have nudity. So why on earth have 50,000 called to complain about seeing Nicolette Sheridan's back (note - her BACK - not her breasts and not her butt) in a funny little commercial? I need someone to explain to me why this is objectionable?!?!?!

I completely agree that this is being blown wayyy out of proportion. It was such a stupid thing to go crazy over. Soon we will be censored from everything.

Re: MNF - Desperate Housewives Commercial Controversy
I dunno.......this is getting way out of hand. Before you know it, women will have to wear only skirts in public & cover their heads & shoulders in a formal or religious place

Re: MNF - Desperate Housewives Commercial Controversy
Because the country is getting offended by EVERYTHING these days. If someone sneezes the wrong way Im sure someone will complain to the FCC. There is WAY too much nit picking going on these days about what we are 'allowed' to see on TV. There is more X rated suggested material on Soap Operas than there was on before the football game!!!

I work in TV advertising and i know that tons of advertisers pulled out their money after desperate housewives premiered...even thought its incredible advertising, the companies wanted to 'protect' their image and not have their product associated with a show that dealt with infidelity and the other themes on the show. (such as an older woman involved with a high school student)I think its ridiculous too, with all else that is out there...so weird that they attacked that show!

Re: MNF - Desperate Housewives Commercial Controversy
what would happen if 50,000 MORE people called and said they LOVED the commercial and wanted more? I am willing to bet the majority of viewers didn't mind it but of course, only those offended call to complain and it makes it seem like the entire country is hypersensitive.

Re: MNF - Desperate Housewives Commercial Controversy
What I find most hilarious is that you see the headlines on shows such as 'Insider' and 'ET' saying 'Monday Night Football controversy blah blah blah was the network wrong to show it on a family network and during family programming? The controversy!! The horror!!!' Then they proceed to show the clip a few HUNDRED more times!!!!!!!!! Who are they kidding, the media loves it; they had something to talk about all week. Maybe Tara Reid's other boob will fall out this weekend and the media can talk about that next week.

Re: MNF - Desperate Housewives Commercial Controversy
because President Bush was given a 'mandate' by those who voted for him to perpetuate his 'moral agenda'... so all of those things offensive to the Christian Right that run this country will either be eliminated or fined into submission.

Yes, I voted bush....but i am in all honesty saying that it has nothing to do with Christian Right...there are FCC guidelines in any kind of advertising...they get thousands upon thousands of complaints a day. President Bush has much more going on that to worry about a back being shown in a commericial. Are people too sensitive? Yes. Does it get ridiculous? Yes. But in the end, the FCC mandates what happens...I mean if Christian Right was such an influence in media, why would certain shows air in the first place?

Right- and President Bush is the one that gives the people at the FCC their job. They aren't elected officials.. the are appointed... why else would it be that fines are being assesed to programs that were the same 15 years ago as they are today. Fifteen years ago there may have been complaints, but the FCC said we have something called a First Amendment, don't watch it if you don't like it. Now- the 'right' type of people complain- Bush's 'voting base' which is who won him the election- and fines are being handed down.
It is a political situation. I am not sayiing the Christian Right controls the media, but I AM saying that they do bend the ears of the administration and that includes the FCC.

Re: MNF - Desperate Housewives Commercial Controversy
I just find it amazing that this country is always so up in arms about nudity. A breast, a back on tv - the human form that birthed you, breast fed you, and the sex that created you. Gratuitous as some of it might be, it is all LIFE.Yet, it is perfectly acceptable to depict DEATH everywhere - extreme voilence in cartoons, videogames, tv, movies...the list goes on.
This country has it backwards - the violence needs to go, not the nudity.

I don't know what this is all about so I'll say this.. nothing wrong with admiring the human anatomy.. when it does go wrong is when these thoughts become an obsession.
