I'm having a thought and need some opinions. My mother and I are very close. Although we've had our differences in the past (as all mothers and daughters do), I was thinking how nice and special it would be to surprise her by asking her to be my matron of honor. I have a maid of honor and 2 bridesmaids that I already asked to be in the wedding party. We have about a year until the wedding so I have time to think about it but I would like to ask her soon. I'm afraid that if I ask her it would look like I just thought of this idea when really I've been going back and forth with it for awhile. I haven't discussed it with FH yet. They get along great though. I just need some opinions and thoughts on this.

crashing..I say no just let her be the MOB that is the best title for a mom on that day...I feel it will take away from her glory of walking down with the usher as the MOB...just my opinion....

i was considering the same thing...but ultimately i think that mother of the bride is a beautiful thing itself...
but i did want to include her in the ceremony, so we are doing a rose ceremony for the mothers...but instead of just handing her a rose when i get down the aisle, we are going to have the officiant call the mothers up and we're going to say a little something about each of them and then give them a rose.
my mom is so close to me; i tell her all the time she is like my best friend...but i think it's nicer to have the mom be the mom that day...i think that's a higher honor than MOH.
but of course, this is JMO...if you really want to do it then you should!! i've heard of girls doing that and i'm sure she would be very honored.

Thanks girls...I went dress shopping today with my mother, grandmother and godmother and it the topic was on my mind the whole day, not to mention the fact that I FOUND MY DRESS!!!! But anyways, I read your responses before I left and after today I couldn't agree more. Thanks for everything girls!

I feel like in most situations parents already have a title for that day. She is the Mother of the Bride, and that is a special title of honor in itself. In my opinion, I think your mother should just be mother of bride and be honored that now.
Now it is your wedding, and it is your choice, so if you want to, anything is possible
