MOB Dresses

MOB Dresses

Why are most of the MOB Dresses dark colors and straight up and down matronly styled. What about the mothers out there with curves? What about the ones who don't want to look like they are giving in to grandma life? Who want color for a summer wedding? My mom is not thin, but she has curves. She got so frustrated she started pulling dresses off the prom racks today.

I have a feeling my mother will be just like this! She is definately not matronly or grandmotherish at all! She goes out more than I do! ha ha ha ha!

My mom went through the same thing with her dress... I'm also getting married in august so there is the dilema of not wanting to be too dark but your wedding is a saturday night so dark is not completely out the window... try looking at jewel tone colors, they may be dark but are very in style for formalwear.. i personally like dark colors so a beautiful sapphire blue or ruby red is perfect for a saturday night summer wedding

My mom isn't a party girl, but she doesn't want the straight up and down subdued colored dresses stores seem to deem appropriate for the MOB or MOG.

Me and my mom had exactly the same problem! We eventually found one at David's Bridal but the selection this year is horrible!

I agree! my mom ended up getting a bridesmaids dress! It's a really pretty burnt orange called 'cognac'

I went with FMIL to get her dress on Friday and we had the same problem... she ended up with black anyway but it's absolutely gorgeous.

My mom, on the other hand wants pink and it's not going to be easy! I really think we're going to look in Macy's or Bloomingdale's a little later in the spring- we should find something there in lighter shades!

Re: MOB Dresses

We've been having this problem too. I may be bias here lolz but my mom is a beatiful woman with an amazing figure and I want her to show it off and feel beautiful that nite..especially because she never dresses up. There's no way I want her in a straight cut gown in a muted tone with no sparkles..lolz..I want her to stand out and shine! We've actually found a few prom dresses that we liked for her and she can def pull them off...so try looking at some prom stuff

Thanks, yeah see those deep colors are pretty, but not with my Tiffany Blue Bridesmaid dresses.

We went to Macys, Lord and Taylors and Saks in the city last week. Usually by now they have spring colors but no sign of them this year. I think its the economy.

My mom got her dress at Mieka in Woodbury and it's totally hot!!! She's wearing a mermaid cut gown thats off the shoulders. Va Va Va Voom, ladies!

In addition to there, you could check out Tallulah, also in Woodbury, and there's another store in there thats good too (it's right next door to Mieka). You could also check Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdale's, Saks, etc. They always have incredible off the rack dresses. Macy's Herald Square also has the most gigantic dress selection.

Keep looking! You will find, I promise!

Re: MOB Dresses

My mom and I went dress shopping yesterday and commented on the same thing!!!!! All of the dresses are dark and granny looking. We looked in Bridal Reflections, Carmela's Bridal Garden, Bridal Elegance, and The Wedding Center. We didn't really find anything that was nice. Where did you go?

Re: MOB Dresses

BTW...DONT go to Lord and Taylors. I went today and there was NOTHING! I don't know why so many people recommend Lord and Taylors. They have a selection of maybe 10 gowns. And they are simple....no rhinestones or embroidery.

Re: MOB Dresses

My mom did NOT like the MOB dresses from the stores. She ended up getting her dress made she is too picky and too tiny. She is 4'11 and weights about 109 lbs. Its silver w/ beading I;ll have pics in a couple of weeks when its finished.

Re: MOB Dresses

i know how you feel! my mom took one look at the MOB room, looked at me, laughed and said..'nope'...and walked into the BM rooms and found a dress that is SO perfect. i don't get why the MOB dresses are often so matronly. definitely doesn't fit my mom at all!! i felt bad for her, because it's so frustrating!! BUT, we finally found one!

You don't have to use a bridal store. My mom is getting her dress at Nordstroms or Lord and taylor, more options and better quality I think.

Re: MOB Dresses

My mom is the same way, she hates all the typical MOB dresses...but she doesn't like anything sexy either. She tried to wear pants

But she ended up finding a passable taffeta skirt and tube/bolero combo from Spiegel. Spiegel and Newport News have lots of colorful dresses...maybe not full on gowns, but definitely nice summery dresses.

We have been to Pronovias, Macys, Lord & Taylors, Saks, (all in the city locations). The department stores have NOTHING!!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!

We also went to Omnibus, and Village Bridal in Babylon.

She found one dress she liked and it comes in 'pink' which is very vague, pink can mean a lot of different things and she hates that mauve color. They don't have a pic onlline or a swatch. She called the factory today and they said the pink sample will be out on April 25, which is way to late to order her dress. The company didn't seem to care at all.

HELP!!! Where else can we go?
