BTW...DONT go to Lord and Taylors. I went today and there was NOTHING! I don't know why so many people recommend Lord and Taylors. They have a selection of maybe 10 gowns. And they are simple....no rhinestones or embroidery.

They are saying this year is BAD for department stores. Because of the economy they aren't getting in those kind of dresses because they are competing with specialty stores. Once again this economy is making life more difficult.

Go to Flair in StonyBrook or Metamorphisis. They have both contemporary dresses and traditional for MOB. I went there Saturday with my mom. My wedding is on 4th of July weekend and mainly outside- my mom wanted to get a 3/4 length dress that was a light color but still formal. Both places had so much to pick from. She found a dress that she liked at bloomingdales but she was afraid that someone else might have it..

I agree! my mom ended up getting a bridesmaids dress! It's a really pretty burnt orange called 'cognac'

my mom did the same - a bridesmaids dress - in a wine color - she's only 45 - and doesnt look it - so none of the MOB dresses were good for her

My aunt is going with my mom to Nordstroms this weekend to look for dresses. I hope she finds something!!! She really likes this dress, but it only comes in black, red, and dark brown...since it's a summer wedding, she wants something that is a little more lively.

My begged me not to make her wear a mob type dress It isn't her style. She ended up with a gorgeous dress that was her style but not typical. As long as she is happy I am happy.

Why are most of the MOB Dresses dark colors and straight up and down matronly styled. What about the mothers out there with curves? What about the ones who don't want to look like they are giving in to grandma life? Who want color for a summer wedding? My mom is not thin, but she has curves. She got so frustrated she started pulling dresses off the prom racks today.

Thank you, Michelle, I couldn't have said it better!!!!!! I had problems last year finding a dress, and I'm sure it will be the same this year, because I already checked online, on a bazillion sites. And here in Lancaster Co., we have a very piddley selection of stores. Mary MOB

When I went to Bridal Reflections they had a really nice selection of sexy MOB dresses- some were mermaid shape with strapless tops. I suggest you give them a shot!

my mom got a BM dress for this exact reason. she's not thin but has curves and hated every MOB dress.

Which Bridal Reflections? We went to the one in Massapequa and they had a large selection, but we only saw one 'mermaid' dress....the one I posted...but again, it's way too dark for a summer wedding.

My mom was feeling the same way about MOB dresses and we found a site that had quite a few that don't look too matronly at all. They are reasonable priced and she tried on 10 to 15 of them and every single one was gorgeous and flattering and not at all matronly. Check it out and good luck!

Oh, and each dress can come in about 20 different colors, many of which are pretty summery!

My mom's dress is hot. Its by Cameron Blake and I think she looks sexier in that then I do in my wedding dress. She is def. going to steal the show!

Re: MOB Dresses

This is what my mom will be wearing. It's Jade by Jasmine.
Her boobs will not look like that, and since my mom is a fuller figure woman, this type of dress looked best on her.
It's so becoming and does not make her look matronly whatsoever.

my mom get her dress at lord and taylor - it was three pieces and it had beading on the top and jacket. it was not matronly at all. sometimes department stores are hit and miss with very formal wear.

My mom has decided that it's appropriate for her to wear a rayon shirt-set, and a pair of pants.

No, this is not a joke.

Yes, I am offended.

My mom searched for 2 years for a dress that wasn't grandmaish and would flatter her body type... Try BM dresses..
