My mom tells me today that she's been working overtime at work so she can start saving for my dress. when i corrected her and said you mean your dress, her reply was 'no, your dress. its an unspoken tradition that the mother of the bride pays for her daughters dress.' is this for real or is this just something my mom's convinced herself of? either way, its a sweet deal!!

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?
My parents are paying for my wedding dress but I don't think it's because of tradition. My mom feels that it's an honor to be able to buy my dress.
And, yes, it's a sweet deal!

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?
i guess it really depends now a days, traditioanlly yes the mob pays for the dress (and pretty much everything else it seems!) but now it depends on what you love, how much it is ( cause back then dresses were NOT $3000!)

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?
I don't think it makes a difference. It's an honor for anyone to want to pay for a dress. As part of my wedding gift, my aunt is paying for mine.

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?
I don't know if it's tradition, buy my mom paid for my dress. We went shopping for it together & when I found the dress, she said she'd pay... I was surprised but happy!

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?
What a lovely gesture from your mom!
Traditionally the bride's parents paid for the whole shebang, but today the funds to cover the wedding can and do come from all sides involved.

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?
There is no set way of doing things anymore. I paid for my dress, but my mom is helping with other things. If your mom wants to buy your dress, that's wonderful -- let her. It could only get tricky if you fall in love with a dress that's out of budget -- I would ask her realistically where should you be shopping -so you don't fall in love with a 10K dress when she was planning on buying a 2K dress.

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?
Since my dress was on the expensive side I offered to share in the cost with my parents (divorced). We each paid 1/3 of the dress. Worked out well for me!
