MOB paying for wedding dress?

Original post by jesca

My mom tells me today that she's been working overtime at work so she can start saving for my dress. when i corrected her and said you mean your dress, her reply was 'no, your dress. its an unspoken tradition that the mother of the bride pays for her daughters dress.' is this for real or is this just something my mom's convinced herself of? either way, its a sweet deal!!

i'm not sure but my mom said the same thing to me.. she wants to pay for it. At first i was like no thats crazy but she wants to help in some way since FH and I are paying for the wedding. So i finally gave in and said ok.

my mother is paying for my dress not because of tradition but because she wants to.

I am paying for my dress or attempting to. When I informed my Nana that I had found one she offered to give me money towards it. It's been hard to not take the money from her, she gives me some almost every time I see her Nana

Re: MOB paying for wedding dress?

my mom is paying for everything. our first purchase was my gown and i tried to find a cheaper one but my mom insisted that i have my dream dress. teh prices are nuts, though. fh says it better become a family heirloom. lol..

honestly there are no real rules any more. my mother is paying for my dress but that is because she is really not paying for anything else.

I didn't talk to my mom about it, but I had a 'feeling' she would pay for it, and she did. it's funny, because she is the woman who balks at paying more than $20 for shoes, but she bought my dress which was way more than I thought she should pay for, and she paid for the veils as well.
she didn't even give me a chance to pay...i was in the back, came up to the front and it was a done deal! i was touched and felt very lucky

I agree nothing is traditional when it comes to an LI wedding. My fh and I were paying for my dress. My parents are helping us out with other things. Then I brought my fmil and fsil to see the dress and my fmil paid the balance of my dress. I was brought to tears. She is truly a beautiful woman. She did not have to do that by any means. I was really blown away.
