So my FMIL wants me to go with her to get her dress. She went to Commack WEdding Center and said no one helped her. I'm not really sure what her budget is exactly but I know that the dresses were more than she expected.
I need a little help/advice. She is a small very pretty woman. She wants a sexy dress. Which I don't mind but I still want her to look age appropriate. Apparently her favorite dress so far has cut outs on the side. FH and his sister both told her not a good idea.
I really dont know if I have to balls to tell her a dress is too much or what not. What do I do?
ETA: Where should I take her to look?

Re: MOG dress - ? and advice
I went with my mom to Helen's Bridal which is in the same building as the wedding center.. Not sure if there the same thing? But they were SO helpful when we went there. But maybe when she tries dresses on just give her an honest opinion & just keeping suggesting ones that are more covered & also look thru the racks with her & pick some out that aren't so revealing.

Re: MOG dress - ? and advice
At David's Bridal - give that a try, or also try out Estelle's, I know a lot of ladies have had luck there. I think you can nicely suggest to her other options so that she can atleast see other possible things and maybe that will change her mind? Goodluck!

Re: MOG dress - ? and advice
I went to Estelle's with my mom. they had great prices on some really nice dresses, but if you're worried about the dress being too sexy and having to say something about it then maybe exposing her to the teen scene at Estelle's (even though that's not ALL they have) isn't a great idea
However, on the flip side, if you take her to a fuddy duddy store where she can't find anything she feels sexy in, she might go out on her own and then you won't be there to be like UMMM hold on a sec! LOL
So I dunno, tough call.

Re: MOG dress - ? and advice
My MOG was pretty much the same, not appropriate at all...she wanted to wear a backless dress with sequins and she is 'of a certain age' and a size 22...now you tell me...LOL But FH and I pushed her towards what we thought was really nice and looked good her and she was happy with it.. at the end of the day you want her to look good in pictures so just let her er know that and she will be fine! P.S. I think FH just told her what to do, but you play nice!!! LOL

Try Totally You in Bellmore. My mom bought her dress on the under $200 rack, though they did try to pressure her into buying something more expensive.

Re: MOG dress - ? and advice
My MOG got her dress at Wedding Center in commack but dont confuse it with Wedding World in Commack. I thought Wedding Center is better i got my invitations, Favors, Tux and BM Dresses there and they have great prices and will beat anybody prices. My Mother got her dress at Sugar plum in lynbrook i believe and she can get them off the rack as well there. hope this works

Re: MOG dress - ? and advice
since she doesnt need a speciality size why not try a department store? i've heard good things about the gowns at lord and taylors and bloomingdales and nordstroms all have fancy long dresses that would be appropiate for her.

My FMIL bought her dress from Totally You. My mom bought her dress from Bridal Reflections and the woman there was very helpful!
