Our wedding is in less then a month, and FH has been asking his mom repeatedly about a dress for the wedding. She went out once a couple of weeks ago, and didn't see anything she wanted. So she asks FH to bring her to Davids Bridal, becasue I had printed out some pics months ago. Of course FH asks me to go also, we drive to David's from Sayville, so it takes about 45 minutes to get there.
We look at dresses, and she doesn't even try on one dress. SHe sees one that she lives, but says it is too long. and since it was pants and fabric over the pants, she thinks it would be too involved for someone to hem it. I told her it would not be a problem, and that if she trys it on, the ladies here would be able to tell her if it is possible. She says well I will just wear the other dress I ahve at home, that she wore for the other sons wedding.
So now I am ****ed, becasue by the time we had to go get lunch, becasuse FH's niece was whining she was hungry and finally got home, it was a waste of 4 hours!! I had so many things that I couldn't get done yesterday becaseu of this wasted trip.
The worst part is, she never intended to get a dress, and that is what ****ed me off.
Here is the dress she thought would be too involved to have hemmed. I am convinced she is a wack job!!!

Re: MOG - Dress dilemma
OMG - that really does s*ck - why bother going through all that if she already had her mind made up - and the pic that you posted - the dress is really pretty! Was she the one asking to find another dress? Because her attitude isnt showing that. I am so sorry you had to deal with that

Re: MOG - Dress dilemma
We told ehr that she should really get another dress, since at the time we told ehr, her daughter was in the BP, and the dress she wants to wear is turquoise, and the BP was in sky blue, we felt it would look bad in pictures.
Also she complained after the toher brother's wedding that she didn't really like the dress all that much. And the kicker, she wore white shoes with a turquoise dress last time, so I am sure she will wear them again. So I guess she felt like she had to go look for another dress, but give me a break, why did we have to go so far and waster 4 hours of my sunday when she didn't want ot get a new dress. SHe should ahve said it months ago that she was wearing the old dress, and that was it.

Re: MOG - Dress dilemma
I think your FH needs to have a chat with his mom. Is she lazy or frugal? Maybe you can offer to help pay for the dress- not that you should have to but... There is a place on sunrise highway called Eva's or Eve's its on the South Side of the road between Oakdale Boh road and lakeland somewhere. Some dresses were a little pricy, some weren't. Also, some stores like dress barn are starting w/ the holiday dresses so there is a lot of black velvet stuff out- maybe if she can buy off the rack she'd be happier?

I'm sorry you have to deal with this! If your FH can't talk to her or won't, I suggest that you just let it go. It really in the end probably doesn't matter in terms of pictures. She'll just look like a fool who wore the same dress twice! At least it's not white!

Re: MOG - Dress dilemma
Honey, I don't want to add salt to the wound here, but if she hasn't gone for a dress in all this time, I say let it go and let her worry about it. When my son got married I bought my gown 6 months in advance. People who want to, will get things done in a timely fashion. People who don't, should be left on their own and it will be her problem if she is not happy with the way she looks in photos later on. It is not a reflection of you or your FH, so try not to let it bother you and focus on what really will make you happy. Too bad we Moms and MILs don't know what we do to our children.

Re: MOG - Dress dilemma
I agree with LImom, my mom was kinda dragging her heels for a while there. All of a sudden, she called me last week saying she thinks she found the dress and wanted me to see it. I didn't really bug her at all, she realized on her own it was getting close and just bought a dress. FH's mom just told us that now that she knows what color my mom is wearing she will go and get her dress.

What about trying Estell's Dressy Dress's in Farmindale (exit 49S. off the LIE). They usually have a good selection and they are pretty reasonablly priced.

Re: MOG - Dress dilemma
She looked at Estelle's a few weeks ago, but she doesn't want to get a new dress, so no matter how many dresses she loks at she will make one excuse or the other. It just annoys me, that my time has to be wasted. I ahve way to many things to do, then to waste 4 hours with them looking at dreeses that she will not buy. I just hate when she pulls this garbage.
