MOG dress issue-- VENT- UPDATED WITH PICS

My mother is wearing champagne and has already ordered her dress.
Tomorrow me FSIL and FMIL are going shopping for MOG dresses. FSIL says her mother only looks good in neutrals and there's no way she's gonna pick anything but a neutral beige or sand color---which will look just like my mother's champagne dress.

My mother may be upset about this....but FMIL is extremely hard to please..and has an awkard shaped body which limits the choices so I dont know if I will be making it harder by telling her to get a different color.

What should I do? Would you be upset?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay so the shopping is over. The color is in the same family---but I think it looks different enough. What do you ladies think?

The first pics are of FH's mom (dont mind the faces she's making--she thought I was just taking a pic of the dress)

My mom's dress appear a lot lighter here than in person, its a shimmery champagne with champagne beading.

I think the difference in the jackets is pretty drastic? At least I hope...ladies???

It is OK for the MOG and MOB to wear a dress in a similar color as long as the dresses don't look the same.

My mother and MIL wore the EXACT same color -- the dresses were totally different and no one was confused about who was who and both looked great.

Try not to get too upset about this. :)

I think it's fine. Maybe edge her toward a darker shade of taupe.
I am in ivory, my mom is in Tusk (ivory to me!), and FMIL is in champagne.
I don't think it's a big deal. No one is going to confuse us.

As long as it's not the same dress, I wouldn't stress over it. But, since it's bothering you a litte, I would encourage her to try on colors that flatter her skin tone though - even if you tell her it's just to 'see' how it looks.

Re: MOG dress issue-- VENT

Just to make an annoying situation worse, my FSIL is showing me a picture of a dress that is 'perfect' for her mother...and it look soo much like my mom's. It is chiffon, floor length, with a jacket with beading. Okay..the beading is a bit different...and the sleeves on the jacket are different lengths...but c'mon!

Its just a tough situation---FH's mom is a strange person. She is very anti-social and hates going out to parties and being festive. We had to convince her to come to the wedding--can you believe this. SOOOOOO, if I make the dress shopping difficult the result will be she just will use it as an excuse to not come.

Ugh....

My two moms are wearing the colors that are in the same family as the whole bridal party (chocolates, beiges, champagnes etc) While their colors are in the same family, they are 2 completely looking looks. I would steer her away for the styles your mom got. For example, my mom is wearing a more ballroom traditional dress and my MIL will be wearing a more slimming dress with a jacket.
No worries!!!!!!!!

i guess it is ok.. i would personally prefer it if the mothers wore completely different dresses and colors, but if that is what has to happen than that is waht has to happen!

Okay, Im starting to feel better. I just called FH to see if he could talk to his mom about this...he said i should leave it be. It will come down to 'whatever will be will be' or she won't come. Wonderful scenario, right?

I think I will try to encourage her to try on colors....and see what comes of it. In the end, I will deal with my mother's attitude.

I've had such smooth sailing....until this week! On Tuesday I had a mishap with my favor and now this stupid issue. If this dress issue blows up out of control....I will regret saying no to the vegas wedding.

ITS OK TO HAVE SAME COLOR, BUT MOB IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE FIRST COLOR PICK

i dont think it is a big deal if they are wearing the same color or not... in the grand scheme of things, no one will really notice, and who really cares... as long as they look good in their dresses and feel comfortable in them, that was all that i was concerned about...

I definitely don't want the moms to be in the same color. etiquette is MOB picks first. she should really pick a different color (it depends if you want them to look the same or not)

Re: MOG dress issue-- VENT

do you tell them, that looks a lot like my mom's dress? Did you tell them the color your mom ordered? I see what you write about what FSIL says, but does FMIL know??? if she knows she may get a different color... what about a olive greenish color? or a mocha/chocolate.. those are still neutral colors? just say 'that is the color my mom is getting' every time she points out that color... she may get tired of hearing that and try to go with a different color???

in the end if you can not sway her, and as long as it doenst bother your mom... try not to let it upset you too much.. i do understand where you are coming from, your mom is specal to you and i am sure you want her to not have her 'toes' stepped on as mother of the bride! i get like that with my mom cause FMIL always needs to be the center of attention, she was in her glory when she was MOB for her daughters wedding and it just eats at her that she is MOG and not MOB this time and she definitly crosses line!!

I dont think it matters at all if they're wearing the same color. Who cares? Let them wear what they're comfortable in.

I agree, MOB is suppose to have first pick of color, FMIL felt very strong on having my mom pick her dress and color first. Step-monster gets last choice of picking color.

I think the dresses themselves are sooooooooo different, that it doesn't matter how close the colors match.

I agree. I think you are fine. My mother is wearing black and taupe for my wedding. She then told my evil step-mother that she was wearing black. Guess what? My step mother went out and bought a black dress.

I think both your MOB and MOG dresses are beautiful and the colors aren't that similar. Honestly, I wouldn't stress that much over it.

I don't think they are similar at all. I think both dresses are fine.

My mother and MIL wore colors that no way complimented eachother. Seriously, in the grand scheme of things, I could have cared less. I was annoyed at my mother's dress selection prior to the wedding, but the day of the wedding, I didn't even notice what my mother was wearing, or my MIL for that matter.
